Hey I am here to give you some tips on how to play imdeity and then go still play 1.4 on singleplayer without the hassle of swapping jars which sometimes crashes your Minecraft.

    1. Download multi mc - http://forkk.net/MultiMC4/
    2. When you have downloaded it, load multi mc launcher
    3. Make a profile on it (call it anything) (top right hand corner there add new instance, that how you make profile)
    4. Force update that profile
    5. When it loads up ta da you should be on 1.4

But wait I am on 1.4 how do I play 1.3

Simple 2 ways you can do this

    1. Load up your normal Minecraft launcher
    2. Don't update your normal Minecraft Launcher

    or

    1. Load up Multimc again
    2. Make yet another profile
    3. Click it but not double click
    4. Click downgrade on the right and put it on 1.3
    5. Choose the profile with 1.3 installed or if want 1.4 choose the other one

Feel free to ask for advise or if you got any questions feel free to ask them :D

    P.S
Using multimc you can also downgrade lower then 1.3 if you want to go and play other updates (even the first ever version)

Or one could copy the .minecraft folder in the app data folder then save it on the desktop and update Minecraft. Then you can switch the .minecraft folders depending on if you want to go back and forth. :)

without the hassle of swapping jars, same hassle as swapping the full Minecraft folder and is easier to just do my steps

It's not that bad moving two folders. :)
I prefer Doing that over installing something on my precious SSD.
    Lol

That's just me. Some people might like the program thingy though

Lol yea for most people it not that bad but I find moving them a pain and it sometimes crashes my Minecraft

Also people may understand this way more then moving folders, like finding appdata, what do I do now?, etc but witrh multimc I think it easier

Boom there's the .minecraft folder. :)

The multi Minecraft program is handy for a quick downgrade though.

hmm not sure what the problem their but I help people play both 1.3 and 1.4.

If you don't want use my steps and download mutimc which easy to use and you can easily downgrade there, I advise looking up tutorials on google or find help with your error.
