There already is a jail system, it's rarely used though. Most of the griefing nowadays are major, not minor from what I see.

Most of the time crime is rewarded with temp bans these days

Call me old fashioned but I miss going to the jail to pity those with less common sense luck than myself.

Jails caused more trouble than they helped people to get on the better track. We use tempbans nowadys to punish griefers and such. It is not likely that jails ever come back.

Why did you call your post "Jail class"? You should have called it jail system, or jail. Jail class sounds like a new player class :p

But i must say that i like the idea of towns having their own town jails, it would be fun to have them.

The jails used to have regions around them that prevented people from using any commands. So a new class would not be needed, but as has been said, temp bans on players seem to work better/get the message across more. There were many people who had multiple jailings, and thus was introduced the "3 strikes and you're out." I remember seeing a lot of ban reasons that were "jailed more than three times" or some such. A couple days off with temp bans make people think twice about doing something wrong again, and thus we have fewer problems to deal with.

When you say class, people associate it with player class, like merchant or noble; it is easy to prevent people from tp-ing out with a few changes in the permissions code.

What if each town had its own jail? I know that the town King and I are in could use one, I'm getting sick of chasing criminals halfway around town trying to confine them with dirt. We could just make it so if a resident is caught doing something, he is jailed for a given amount of time.

I find this idea a good one- it makes sense, to add on the ability to teleport those who have disobeyed a law to a town jail, in a no-command zone, perhaps for a limited amount of time, not when the king/mayor/etc decides they can come out.

Too much power in the hands of unreliable people. It would cause more bad than good. You can't trust the stupid with power. Political reference removed as it's not allowed on the forums.

The accused could file a /ticket if they genuinely felt as though they were wrongly jailed

The ability for Mayors to have a town jail for their town members was discussed and dismissed. Too much power to be abused by those that normally won't know how to use it responsibly.

Tickets take time, so at 2:00 in the morning when no one is awake and you're a player from Oceania, you'll be sitting there for a while. Jails were fine and worked, but instead temp bans take their place now.

What about a town-restriction ban. Like if they are apart of your town you can just ban them or exile them from the town for a day. Obviously abuse of this would cause people to leave the town so it would effectively counter-balance itself. Which means little to no moderator/admin involvement. It might be good to allow it to happen to any player. Towns should reserve the right at who is allowed in/out. Especially if they are the targets of certain individuals who they would rather not deal with. Might even reduce tickets. . . But, it was a quick speculative thought. Idk if it would work.
