Emphasis on dying. It isn't dead, yet.
There are always few people on, there aren't anymore interesting forum topics unlike before. Don't try to prove me wrong by saying that "it isn't peak times" because I had Imdeity in my server list ever since the server list feature was introduced. I can see when a server is dying. Imdeity WAS in the top 10 spot for a while but now it's not. The admins are barely making any announcements on the front page. There are tonnes of bugs that need to be fixed, half of them are caused by malfunctioning plugins. Even when you try to report them, the admins won't reply. More than half of the veterans are gone, and some of the people you see in-game are one-stop players. Ever since that minecraft EULA fiasco, I don't even see any of the admins trying. Other than replying to ban appeals. If you don't see what I'm saying here, you'll eventually do.
Any comment, positive or negative, is welcome. I'd like to see what the staff and the players have to say.

Let's look at this "Minecraft EULA fiasco" from the opposite side - if i was an admin knowing that i may be punished for breaking the EULA by offering perks for donations, i wouldnt be too active and i would think about closing the server. Facing this situation, i am happy that the server still exists.

Right now is when people are in school. Summer's over and there's less people on than before. I will admit I've seen a noticeable decline in player population from this time last year to now, and a lot of faces I saw then are gone now. And while it is my personal opinion that a map reset is indeed in order, I also believe that real life is taking more importance over this game and that's why a lot of people are no longer around.

What a nice message yogs, :)

Now, Rovince, I DO agree with you on some levels. The server population is for sure declining, even when I joined about a year ago, its less then that.

The EULA "fiasco"? That really isn't applicable here considering deity could give two potatos about it.
The admins not responding? While they're working A LOT, especially deity, you got to remember that we don't know what projects they got up their sleeves. They've surprised us alot, like with War and such. Don't doubt them, be excited for their new creation.

The only real problem here, in my opinion, is for sure the population. We REALLY need to get that up, I bet most of the people would agree.
I don't know about deity on all of this, but a new set of advertisements would be nice. Which of course cost money, which needs donators, which I don't know the status on.

    Thats my input, :)

I left because of a lack of change. I'm not a builder, and other than events, there is no place for a non-builder in the main world. I was a merchant and kept my shop stocked for a while, but for what? Dei, which had what purpose? Oh, right. Towns (places for builders and buildings) and blocks (also used in buildings). I'm not a fan of factions, so that leaves me with, well, the war server (and events. I'd be interested to see how I'd fare in events at this point, but the teaming fiasco just made me lose hope in those as well). I haven't logged onto the server in two months, and I haven't been active in 4-6 months. I keep the ImDeity homepage open in hope for change, but the only change I've seen has been the ImDeity Guide. Woo.
EDIT: When I say I'm not a builder, that doesn't mean I don't build. I just don't build for the sake of building and building alone (see my buildoff plots for when I got invested in something). If there was something to do that in its purpose didn't pertain to building so clearly, I probably would enjoy it.

I agree that the Server population has declined but you also have to realize like Trekar said, people have work and school and other stuff to attend to that as hard as it may sound, is actually more important then a game.
It's really over dramatic to merely say the Server is "dying". It did have its Glory moments and milestones but obviously it wasn't going to stay like that forever. The server has lost some interest but I still think that the server has the potential to have more future milestones. And if I'm wrong then it really has been a great server with good memories

Hey guys, so as another regular player here I thought I'd add some input, seeing as this certain type of thread has come up several times within the past few years and really I think the solution for players has not changed. The EULA "fiasco" isn't really existent here, except maybe for creating player speculations a few months ago. I will reference some previous threads (may I add some of them happen to be around this time of year), yes they may have different points of concern but it all kind of touches on general player inactivity or players being bored.
Whether you can be bothered to read these or not, in summary, I think when it comes to player boredom or people not coming on because they are bored or waiting for a reset, it's disappointing. Yes, some features of the server may need a bit of TLC right now, such as creative and it's issues, but it's not like there has been nothing added recently. Heck, I mean FTB2 was just created with a whole new modpack, Magic World 2, and it's gathered lots of attention out of our current total player base. That's gotta mean something, right?

But who am I kidding, I'll just quote a portion of my post from one of the above threads.
We cannot blame staff for our boredom, we can only blame ourselves. There are like what.. 4-5 different worlds with different modpacks/gamemodes on this server? We have pvp, creative(semi-moody lately, though), main, ftb, ftb2, forgive me if I forgot anything. :) Yes, staff may not reply to our every call of concern or for assistance, but that doesn't mean they don't care. I believe(I may be wrong) that they are human too, have lives, and may not be able to reply to everything, but will likely view messages or conversations when they can. I know for sure, staff members are doing more than just replying to ban appeals, I'm almost positive there have been tickets along with work on some other things for the server for the benefit of players, this I know for sure.

Sorry if I'm coming off harsh, I'm really not trying to be mean but these threads grow tiresome. And I'm sure we all want this server to be successful, but I think all players can show that by simply playing on the server being apart of the community and/or just finding your own fun/talents and using them to contribute to the server.

    Miss Sassypants, out! :)

    You're a good liar.

I took the time to thoroughly read this and I noticed you said it's the player's job to create the fun. I know I've said this before, and I do believe to some extent that it is true. But what's going on right now is us watching an egg (say we're making an omelet :) ) after someone leaves a stove top on for too long in slow motion. We've seen it at it's best, and now we're simply watching as the 'omelet' curls in on its charred self. We've been watching this for months, and months, and months; and we think if we flip it again, it'll turn that beautiful yellow that it once was.

For those who don't understand, 'flipping' the 'omelet' is my comparison to a server restart. So here's where I will refute your point, Steph. Apparently EVERYONE is dying for this server restart, and a mass number of people will come back and play if it happens; but Deity won't press that button for whatever reason. It boggles my mind that the solution is as easy as saving our previous map and wiping it clean for a new one and yet it won't happen. I don't know why there's a delay. I hear it's Deity's working on updates and stuff (frankly I really don't care), but he has some reason to withhold from wiping the map clean. So while it may be our responsibility to make fun of what Deity has given us, it is his responsibility to give us the tools to make fun. By popular request, the server has asked for a server restart, and we are not getting it. THIS is why the server is in decline.

This brings me back to my thread, Moribund, describing how Deity keeps us in the dark. If you look at Deity's posting history, you'll see in the last 3 months, he has made a total of 8 status updates or replies. 1/3 of those applies to the actual server. So in the past 3 months, Deity has made 3 meaningful posts. 2 were informing of FTB and 1.8 update being accepted, and the third is simply answering someone's server-related question. That is ridiculous. I would get annoyed even if my parents only told me where we were going or what's for dinner 1/3 of the time.

So to Deity; if you won't restart the server, tell us why. Although I don't really agree, many people say that the server restart will reignite the flame. So just give it to them. At this point, it's really about shutting people up. We know it's bad. Some people state that the server is in decline. Others are in denial and refute the former, and the other 80% don't check the forums or log on anymore.

I believe Deity's intention is to have a reset.

There are six potential reasons why we haven't had a reset yet:
    1. We want to wait for a dependable API release for 1.8
    2. We want to release an updated kingdoms code, changing some of the metrics of how towns/kingdoms should work on the server
    3. We don't want to disappoint active players (the ones left) by not releasing anything new/exciting upon having a reset
    4. A combination of the ones above
    5. A reset doesn't solve the underlying issues on the server, so it is a waste of time to do it

Yeah I've yet to find this button anywhere in the last few years I've been running this server. In reality, a reset requires a ton of work and with Bukkit still not having a 1.8 version (and no alternatives either), resetting now would mean I'd not only have to do a ton of work to organize the map/database/stats reset and more importantly, the plugin tweaks on a hacked up version of Bukkit but also do all the plugin recoding over again (with lots of things guaranteed to break) for the real 1.8 version of Bukkit or whatever server software is available. We're not some vanilla server that can delete a world folder for a reset so you can build your boxy floating castle out of cobblestone Moji.

This is a result of having active staff that handles the forum side of the server. I have and continue to do work on the server to keep it stable and online and my public posting history has no relevance to the amount of work I do.

Answered partially above. A reset will happen but without a real 1.8 server software release (again, Bukkit doesn't exist as a software anymore and no stable alternative server software exists yet), the wait may be longer.

There is no question that I've lost some motivation as a result of the EULA changes, Bukkit being killed off and the Mojang sale/Microsoft acquisition but a reset is not a magical fix for a population decline nor is it a simple flip of the switch.

So, since Miss Sassypants made a really good point on the view of a regular player (I can't actually come with something better on that side ;) ), I guess I'll have to go up with some parts of a typical answer as a moderator, but I'll still get my opinion in this. People that know me understand that I do not really enjoy making these types of posts, but it looks like it's always needed. Since other posts around that subjects are still being created, whether or not we have the same points coming from different players. In the end, it's always the same points that are coming out.
Rovince, I'm really sorry, but I personally haven't seen you online for a while. It looks like you've logged in today, and at the same time, made this post. I looked up really quickly, and with small portions of game time in the last year, it shows me some inactivity. So if I understand correctly, you're saying that the server is dying, but you don't seem to help on repopulating it? I cannot really understand how you can tell that the server is dying.
So, I'll make some points (again) about that:
-We have a constant amount of players. Yes, I know, like you said, we don't have the typical 100+ players we had over two years ago. You and I joined around the same time, so I think you know how we had ups and downs. During the whole time this server was created, the goal wasn't to have that amount of players. It was more about having a strong community that enjoyed eachother, and that it would feel like you're in a larger family. A small place where you could have fun, enjoy some good time; not being swarmed by hundreds of texts lines every single second in your screen, that you have to almost close it so don't have to burn your eyes.

-" Imdeity WAS in the top 10 spot for a while but now it's not.". You say it yourself, it WAS. Trends are going in circles. When ImDeity Kingdoms was in the top 10 list, people were looking for an economy system, towns, it seemed like they wanted something that came up close to real life. Now, the top 10 servers are centered around 4-5 things: Factions, Prisons, Survival Games, Creative, and mini-games. It would help if there was more emphasis put on any of these. Yet, the server wasn't made for any of these asides from creative(That's pretty much what the server was before the Beta versions of Minecraft).

We do have some of these, like PvP and DeityWar; do they seem to be popular on here? I see one, maybe two players from time to time on PvP,and war mostly have 8-10 players. From there, it would be advertising that would bring more players in, but for that, we need players to vote constantly, and to have some money put on that. From there, it's Deity's decision.

    - "The admins are barely making any announcements on the front page." The role of administrators here is not to entertain the players, but to make sure the server actually runs. Then, moderators are here to maintain a good environment for players to be in. If admins do not have anything extremely special to say and/or show to players, there would probably have no reason for them to make an announcement.

-"There are tonnes of bugs that need to be fixed, half of them are caused by malfunctioning plugins.Even when you try to report them, the admins won't reply. " We're aware of it, many posts bringed it up, and I'm taking the same answer: Only Deity and Killertaco are doing codes for the server, and now that I actually know what kind of environment programming is, It will never be perfect for a long time, and it can take lots of time to find errors in these "malfunctioning plugins". From there, I do not know why we do not have more coders, and I can't bring you an answer to that.

The second statement about admins not caring about bug reports, that's just plain false. It is helpful for them to know what happens if "x" action is made in the plugin, so they can try to fix them. Killertaco even have his threads about the plugins he does, to keep people up-to-date, and if I am not mistaken, he has one too for bug reports(Do not quote me on that though as I am not sure yet, I'm looking for it.)

-" More than half of the veterans are gone, and some of the people you see in-game are one-stop players." So? If they're gone, they had reasons, and I am aware that some of these are about the same as your post, but we can't make them change their mind forever, it was their choice. They're probably having more fun somewhere else, and they do tend to come back if they're not banned, complain on how we're inactive, then leave again. Those "one-stop players" as you call them might not be the type of players we're looking for, but you once were one, and you decided to stay here. Even if they're only here for a week,he or she might have talked to his or her friends and bringed them on here, etc.

And for the map reset, see Deity's post above.

So yeah, I hate making long posts, but I guess I was really inspired.

For more information, look at the links in Steph's posts, because what I said might have been explained better by other moderators.
    Thanks for reading,
    Deero.

It would be nice to have another server added to ImDeity. I have started playing a lot of prison servers and i have been really enjoying them. Deity should add a Prison server into here, where all of the current donors would get kits (usually in prison there are donor kits). Deity could start advertising the server mainly for prison and then when bukkit does all of the 1.8 stuff, he would announce the new reset to towny/economy. This would bring so many people to both servers and it would be great! As for pvp/factions, i think it's time has passed. Before there were always 15-30 people on the factions server but now, there is rarely ever even 1 person on. As mentioned in a previous thread about the server dying, someone said that Deity wants to keep the server mainly towny, and not have a server full of a ton or random things. So, it would probably make the server a whole lot more popular if we trade the factions server for a Prison server.

A lot of the server's aforementioned "decline" can be attributed to the general lack of interest in Towny/SMP by new players joining the Minecraft community as a whole. ImDeity never was, and I hope never will be, a mini-games or RPG server.

Remember that there will never be a time when nobody wants to play survival Minecraft, and there will always be a group of people looking for a server like ImDeity. Right now the server is in a transitional phase from when SMP/Towny servers were the only kind of advanced servers to the age of Hunger Games, mini-games, and role playing. In this period we are losing more people to real life and the world beyond than we have joining the community. As veterans leave new people rise up to the occasion. Eventually the server's population will stabilize so long as the staff keep it together(Have confidence, friends. It is not easy)and the players keep having fun!

*Note* : Veterans leaving the server should never be used as an excuse to be angry(example of the server's decline). Some people have to move on to other things, and that is no reason to ridicule them or the server they left. It is inevitable for players to leave or have disputes, not everyone can stay forever.
