This thread may not die! So I am gonna post again. Just to make ou sure: I had a wonderful childhood and have a loving father, I am good. I had to write this cause my teacher wrote the first stanza and I felt inspired for the 2nd and 3rd. My dad was actually scared he would get in trouble back then. :p

    FORMER BELOVED ENEMY
Chilly and foggy was the night
when I woke up and saw no light,
pondered whether to stay or go
    threatened by a ruthless foe,
This I sat engaged in guessing,
    but no syllable expressing.
Oh! This home in horror haunted
made me sick as well as daunted.

He was just there near the hand
    waiting with the painful wand
they both burnt my love away
in former times my life was gay
when father came to wine and beer
my mother did not want to hear.
Oh! Mama, please, tell me just why
you never help me when I cry.

So I laid there scared to hell
with no-one around who could tell
what I should do to flee
    from fathers brutal reality
I wanted to go but where,
does just one of you care?
Oh! No-one helped me make up my mind
´cause all of you are just too blind.

I have a question what if the poem is a bit explicit with language?
also i have a very short but a good set of lines

    Abandon all fear
    Look Forward
    Move forward and never stop
You'll age if you pull back
    You'll Die if you hesitate

    Father, listen to me here
I'm tired of everything you've put me through
Although I love you deep down
I miss the old you, the one I trully loved

That tragic accident really did mess you up
I don't know to explain it but it did
It brings tears to my eyes to this day
That I couldn't do anything to prevent it

    I was a fool, I was a young fool
To this day it haunts me
    The things that I've encountered
And all I could do was move on

These feelings and emotions, I've held in
    Nobody will probably ever see
I can't be seen as weak, I can't expose it
You just don't know what a person has to go though...

A good question (and an excellent little verse! ;). We do have to follow forum rules here, and that includes language. Though I dislike censorship in art, my suggestion would be either bleep out any expletives - like ****, put them under some kind of spoiler cut with a warning for graphic content/language (this might still go against forum rules, so be aware, please!), or you could post it off site somewhere and link us to the poem with a very clear explicit content warning above the link.

Personally, I, too, have created a few poems using ... Stronger language and imagery. I will probably not share them here because I am aware of the age/content issues inherent in the forum. However, I might be personally comfortable posting them elsewhere and linking them here in the thread ...

If a mod would weigh in on an answer for this, that would be great, too. I'll add the answer here to the front of the thread, for future access! Thanks for a great question!

Ima terrible poet, but I decided to combine something poetic, with one of the most overused things: Zombies ;).

    Twas night the change came
    Twas night the dead came
    Twas night the reaper came
    Twas night that death came
    Night, night it was.

    "Zombie apocalypse" By Leviathan_Ziz

    Something more bright:

Look forward to what is about to come
Delighted over what is about to become

Look back at what is passed and done
Fear what was about to go on

    Today is your time
    Stand up in line

Plant life's seeds you can plow
    Happiness is near you know

    "Time" by Leviathan_Ziz

Ps: The new forum rules will soon be launched, adding in a [NSFW] tag for thread that are supposed/can hold coarse language and colorfullness is required, do you want me to edit it in, or do you want it to remain as it is?

    A. If you are a terrible poet, I want more terrible poetry. ;)
    B. Yes, please! Just in case, I think it would be nice to have. That way people don't have to worry if their work is graphic or not. As soon as the tag is applied, I'll edit the first post to reflect it and explain the circumstances. Also I will be adding this -

Note: I don't like judging on what is or isn't 'art', and as a graduate of a fancy, high-fallootin' art school, I have a great appreciation of art for art's sake and the use of explicit content in art. That being said, if a post contains only curse spam or is in any other way an obvious explicitous troll, I will ask for it to be removed. Be advised. Humor is welcome, limericks can be hilarious and fun. But lewd jokes are probably not going to fly, so just be aware.

Here's something I once wrote earlier:
Love Only Values Emotion. Open Now Like Yesterday. Vain Attempts Loosens Unguarded Expressive Sighs. Egos Made Others Take Insults Over Nothing.

One Person Endures Naught. Nursing Old Wounds. Living Insular Killed Empathy. Yearning Evermore So Tomorrow's Expectations Resolves Dawning Another You.
    ...
(It's part of my recursive acronym poetry. So, feel free to continue this if you want.)

Poetry doesn't need to have rhyme. It is a story depicted by a meaningful choice of words and should come from the heart. Mine have no rhymes in them, as does Kiddie's. We favor what is called "Free-verse" poetry. These poems are not bound by rhyme or rhythm.

As Saint said, poetry doesn't have to rhyme. But it can rhyme! A poem can be a story, a song, a saga, it can be motion and emotion and sound and feeling. It can be strictly metered or completely freeform and void of everything - capital letters, punctuation, even 'real' words. One of the best things about poetry is that it isn't easily defined, that you can do so many different things with it, and that there are many different forms of poetry. Rather than go into long descriptions of 'What is poetry and what isn't?', I think I'll just give you a couple links you could follow to some better explanations than what I could really sketch out for you here - the second one, especially, gives some very simple and easy explanation of different kinds of poetry. Then I will let some far more famous poets tell you their ideas on what poetry is. Check them out, and maybe you'll be inspired!

'Poetry is what in a poem makes you laugh, cry, prickle, be silent, makes your toe nails twinkle, makes you want to do this or that or nothing, makes you know that you are alone in the unknown world, that your bliss and suffering is forever shared and forever all your own.' - Dylan Thomas

'As a guiding principle I believe that every poem must be its own sole freshly-created universe, and therefore have no belief in 'tradition' or a common myth-kitty or casual allusions in poems to other poems or poets, which last I find unpleasantly like the talk of literary understrappers letting you see they know the right people.' - Philip Larkin

'Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquillity.' - William Wordsworth

'Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion; it is not the expression of personality, but an escape from personality. But, of course, only those who have personality and emotions know what it means to want to escape from these things. ... The poet's mind is in fact a receptacle for seizing and storing up numberless feelings, phrases, images, which remain there until all the particles which can unite to form a new compound are present together.' - T. S. Eliot

'I wish our clever young poets would remember my homely definitions of prose and poetry; that is - prose; words in their best order; - poetry; the best words in the best order.' - Coleridge

'Poetry is simply the most beautiful, impressive, and widely effective mode of saying things, and hence its importance ... Poetry is, at bottom, a criticism of life.' - Matthew Arnold

'Everybody has their own idea of what's a poet. Robert Frost, President Johnson, T.S.Eliot, Rudolf Valentino - they're all poets. I like to think of myself as the one who carries the light bulb.' - Bob Dylan

'Poetry is the journal of a sea animal living on land, wanting to fly in the air.' - Carl Sandburg

'Well, write poetry, for God's sake, it's the only thing that matters.' - e. e. cummings

Not much of apoet, but I'll give it a try soo.... Warrior within'

Not much is on the move
yet there is something away from it all
    inside the grove awaiting
waiting for the next victim to fall

    due to it's behavior
    it leaves the shelter
    going helter skelter (LOL)
    following it's mirror

    Once upon it's sight
    they shall feel it's might
    they're might....
    MY power
    MY might
    FEAR my fatal SMITE... :p

    Some more tries ;)

In a land far far away
    a young man was
    was not a mage
    not a knight not
    an adventurer
    though courageous
    stout and viril
    beware for him
    , in your cellar
    he is doing your laundry!

    "Hero on socks" - Leviathan_Ziz

    Blesseth once he who is
Blesseth twice he who has family
Blesseth trice he who has friends
Blesseth eternal for he who can balance all

Heres my first try, i'd like feed back! Title: Alone...

    I have always walked alone
    I have always stood alone
    I have always sat alone
    I have always been alone

No matter where, no matter what
    I have always been alone
    It's sad to some
    But this is just known

I had always hoped for more
    But it always had shown
No matter where, no matter when
    I have always been alone

Some great poems, thanks Lev & Fighter! Dozer, for a first poem, that was excellent. Your pacing was really nice, and I think you have a good head for rhyme. I look forward to more!

I'll try to make one now, it might not be that good, and it will be sort of childish and a morbid end, so here it is:

    Have you seen my cat?

    have you seen my cat?
He is really cute with black spots
he's not very thin, but not very fat
when he walks, he leaves paw-shaped dots.

    have you seen my cat?
    He likes tuna and fish
he also enjoys a piece of rat
sometimes, he gets it on a dish

    have you seen my cat?
he loves to scratch on his post
sometimes, even on my baseball bat
so please help me, my cat is lost

    have you seen my cat?
I think he ran over the road, by the shed
oh look, there's my cat, but he is flat!
A furry little lump, my cat is dead.

well yeah, hope you enjoy it.
