Do you have an idea for a mod but don't know how to program? Well, i happen to code for a living and i find it to be a lot of fun making things for minecraft, so how about we make a deal? You tell me what you want and i'll let you know if it's feasible or not. If it's something that can be made then we'll work out a price (in-game money only please, no real currency).

    Standard Programming Service:

Here's a general rundown of how i foresee things would go.
    1. You share your idea. You can do it on this thread or if you prefer it to be private then you can send me a forum conversation. Please be as detailed as possible :)
    2. I'll respond with my thoughts, a time estimate and a price quote (in dei). I anticipate prices ranging from 2,000 (30 minutes of time) to 40,000 (a week's worth of time).
    3. Most things will only take a couple days to write.
    4. I'll give you the compiled mod files for you to install as well as the source code.
    5. You can choose whether you keep it to yourself, sell it to others, give it away to everyone, or i can make it public for anyone on any server to download. It's your idea, so you choose.
    6. I'll re-compile the code whenever minecraft gets updated.
No Funds: So you have an idea, but don't have any dei? Well here are some options:
    • You could try to get people to chip in with you.
    • If it's something i can sell to other people (like the Shop Snooper i made) then i could make it and give you 50% of the sales as a royalty for supplying your idea.
    • Or, maybe, if it's something that the whole server would enjoy then I might just make it for free.
Server Plugin: I expect most projects to be client-side mods. Though, if you have ideas for a server plugin (and deity approves) then i could also make a server plugin. There's no cost for that, but it obviously would have to depend on if deity likes your idea.

I got one! How much would a minecraft holiday type calendar mod be? It would be like, you enter a command to add a special event and on that day you get a alert saying it! Its simple, but I would like to know how much it would be.

Here's how i am picturing it, let me know if i'm off.
    Create command:
    syntax: /cal create <month/day> <description>
    example: /cal create 7/31 Twitchy's birthday
response: Event created. Consider setting a reminder as well.

    List command:
    syntax: /cal list
    response:
    ID Date Rem Description
    1 6/18 2 Twitchy's birthday
    2 4/16 0 BTarb's birthday

    Delete command:
    syntax: /cal delete <id>
    example: /cal delete 2
    response: BTarb's birthday deleted

    Remind command:
    syntax: /cal remind<id> <days>
    example: /cal remind 1 2
response: You'll be reminded 2 days before Twitchy's birthday

    Ok command:
    syntax: /cal ok
response: All active alerts have been acknowledged
    Snooze command:
    syntax: /cal snooze [minutes]
    example: /cal snooze 60
response: You'll be alerted again in 60 minutes.

If a reminder is set to 2 days then each time you log in you'll be reminded of the upcoming event. If reminder is set to 0 then you wont receive any reminders.

Once the day comes, you'll receive an alarm in chat letting you know. You'll continue to receive them every 10 minutes until you do an OK or SNOOZE command.

Does this match what you want? If so, then 3000 seems reasonable to me. If not, then just describe what you want and we'll go from there :)

If you want to drop the reminder and snooze commands then 2000 seems ok.

What program languages do you work in? I am making fps video games and could use some help sometimes with short scripts for weapons, characters or vehicles?

typically c# and xsl but somewhat rarely java and c++. And i suppose xaml, if you count that separately from c#. Anyway, i think i want to keep the side projects centered around minecraft for now. :)

Just a question- how much would a very simplistic stopwatch cost? All it would need would be commands of /timer start, /timer stop, and /timer reset, with the time outputting when the timer stops. I may ask for it, depending on the cost and the other features i may want to add to it.
NOTE: I said /timer because it is easier to type than /stopwatch :p

lol, that's pretty simple alright. the only silly part will be updating it every minecraft version. if you just want the source then 200, if you want me to keep updating it then 1000 i suppose :) Might be good to add more features to it if you can think of them.

How about a mod that simply checks server lag? Or if the database is behind, and additional stats about it, like, Info about the server and economy and how its going.

How about a biome detector? Like, not a minimap, but a little alert specified for each biome you are in. Mainly for mining, its simple but kinda useful.

That's already built into the game ;) Just press F3 and it'll say your current biome.

Naw, your ideas were so good the minecraft developers thought of them themselves and decided to add them to the game!

How bout a mod that gives everyone who doesn't have the mod a random colored nametag and anyone who does has a color of their choice.

I have a Chat Asssistant mod planned. I can add something similar to that. I think i'd just make it so that you can configure the colors of different types of messages. I'll also make it so you can hide people's tags... i hate how some are so long! Anyway, here's a little rundown of the planned features:
    • Beep on incoming whisper
    • beep on incoming portal mail
    • able to set an AFK message. will be auto-sent if someone /tells you. Only sends to that person once per AFK sesssion so people can't try to flood kick you.
    • Save all whispers to disk and make a GUI to be able to browse them in game
    • While AFK, all whispers will be shown in a GUI window so you can see them when you return.
    • hide player tags
    • change colors of different types of messages
    • ignore feature.. ability to completely hide all messages from specific players
    • possibly show a small menu when you right-click on a name in chat. Menu would show things like get balance, ignore, send whisper, get /res info, etc.
