Optimal Strip Mine Height

    So I was in the mine world and i couldn't remember the optimal height above bedrock to mine at and when i googled it I couldn't find a consistent answer. Does anyone here know what it is?

    Bedrock is inconsistent, but the optimal level for diamond mining is with your feet at Y-level 11. Use f3 (or fn-f3 if on a laptop) to see your coordinates.

    There is no optimal level.
    However i usually do 2x1 tunnels at level 11 (feet, eyes 12.6) because that is right above lava.

    Personally i prefer mining at 13. Main reason i like the #13 lol second reason is you are mining slightly higher then everyone else has been so you should find a bit more stuff

    I do level 11 at my feet because of lava as well, but I dig 5x1 tunnels. Those that do 2x1 or 2x2 tunnels end up missing a lot of gold and other stuff those 3 blocks above their heads.

    Wouldn't it be better to make two 2x1 tunnels with 2 blocks vertically between them? Just a thought. You would still get the stuff 3 blocks above, and it would require less mining (although more torches, I guess).

    Etho has done numerous experiments on this with WorldEdit and has found that the highest concentration of diamonds is at y10. Can't remember if it was eyes or feet, but if you have Rei's Minimap, go off that.

    I've been wondering what is a good height to find quartz ore in Mine. I haven't been able to find any, but people say it is there.
    If you can help me with this that would be appreciated.

    On the mining topic, I typically make a straight line then branch out in two-block intervals to see all blocks around the shaft.

    There are only optimal levels for specific materials, like diamond= 16, because of the fact most lava lakes are at 14 and below, gold is about a 32, because gold appears mostly between layers 24 and 40.

    +/- , give or take a few.

    I prefer mining at 10 for the feet, and 11 for the head, that way diamonds can show up above you :3
