    Another trick is to put glowstone as floor, and cover them with carpet, in solid colors or a pattern. You won't see the glowstone, but the light will still be there. You can also put glowstone in walls and cover with paintings.
    I've done both on my creative plot.

    thanks for your input - however, this is covered in original post

    "Note that some things can cover your light sources without changing the effectiveness of their light
    dispersal. ex; a picture covering a glowstone block in a wall will not dampen the glowstones shine, but
    does effectively hide your light source. Carpets will also cover a light source on the floor without dampening it's brightness."

    I can't believe I've been overlooking the potential of different lighting effects for so long! This is definitely going to prompt some trials and experimentation's of my own.

    If I can find enough quartz I'm going to try it in tfc.
    Sandstone was another slab you used too, right?
