Okay lets be nice and not clompletly go in thinking ''ha yo idea dumb af'' and shred it to bits.
my idea is that we had a little fund raiser.
For what you ask? For an advertisment on a server list website.
Why we need this? Look the server is almost dead in terms of active players.
sure a lot of people join the server, but they do not even stay a minute.
if we get an adv. we could get even more players to join meaning more consistant players between them.
i would like to see more players on here so thats why all this.

thanks for taking your time to read this.

I'm not fully sure what a fundraiser would do differently than the donations the server already runs on?

I think the message that could be extracted from this is that some more effort could be put in across the board to keep this server alive and well (meaning having a healthy amount of players). You're digging up age-old dirt, Russian. Most people like to leave it be.

This is something that's been discussed before. While no, it's not a bad idea, it's ultimately up to Deity. We used to advertise, and it did bring in more players, however there are other things that need to be done before advertising is put in to question in my honest opinion. I believe the server isn't ready for the high traffic it used to sit at, and to get back there, some "side projects" need to be taken care of first.

m8 im glad there are plenty of reasons and not that it is out of lazyness. i did not know of these ''side projects'' so that explains a lot as well

Maybe side projects was the wrong term. I just meant that there are a lot of things that need to be done prior to bringing aboard more people.

Go to the server listing sites and you will find out that only 3 or 4 of the 100 top ranked servers are towny servers. The vast majority of servers are minigames, vanilla, pvp, creative and some combinations of the latter. This game has been running for years now, the majority of the player base is not interested in peaceful towny survival with some restricted creative and mining servers on the side. This is one of the top ranked servers of its kind, if there was demand for it we would know.

not adding anything of relevance myself. Simply put that this server is and shall always be a towny server, which is not attractive to most young players.

Unless you advertise to people who like to build cities , architecture and like the art of building. Why not advertise to those types of people. Those would most likely be adults but you could keep it as a family frendly server. Maybe we need to add some sort of aspect in the game so it's not just a towny game make it like a towny war game. Looks good to both sides, the kid who wants to battle others and the people who like building towns and defences for them. This would then bring in a whole new meaning to the game from a casual town server, which isn't so popular to a peaceful towny war server. This WOULD NOT be factions in a sense of not raiding more saying have people group together and battle for the town spawn and taking towns. This would make the game really enjoyable making more reasons for builders to come and attackers (Adults and kids).

If you look at a list of top ranked towny servers, such as http://minecraftservers.org/search/towny , you will see there is some servers just like us that get up to 100 players daily. There is still some demand for towny servers, ImDeity Kingdoms just isn't currently one of the big towny servers like it used to be.

If you look at those servers you can see that the ones with 100 people have minigames as well, tons of them. As soon as you scroll down a bit and see the servers without minigames they have up to 20 people, not much different then imdeity.

Whilst the ones with Minigames and PvP have more than others, there are quite a few towny servers that get 50 people regularly without PvP or limited PvP to wilderness areas .
Here are two examples compared to ImDeity:

Limited PvP server with no creative or other minigames

No PvP or other Gametypes. Classic Towny server
    [IMG]

    ImDeity Kingdoms
    [IMG]

Slightly different playing style to ImDeity but still PvE Survival with towny.

Scrolling to the bottom of the first page and the second of http://minecraftservers.org/search/towny there is a lot more servers like this that regularly get into 40 players daily. Whilst servers that include a Minigame or two and creative get up to 100 players everyday.

The two spikes near 30 players on the weekend was when Versh and I did spleef and pvp events, both in events world and in my town, Bluewater. My petition for server improvements (link in my signature) didn't cover adding some minigame thing (survival games seems to be the most popular out of all of them) or skyblock/prison (someone new asked if there was skyblock/prisons, and left after he got the "no" response), but I think bringing back skyblock and either DeitySpleef or DeityGames every hour (as you may know the "games" server still exists when you do /glist) might bring up the player counts up a bit, just like how my events combined with server events and no school on weekends brought it up, and the minigames is why rock paper scissors and the tic tac toe exist in Bluewater. For all of those who left due to no ftb, Deity is busy with work on weekdays, but might find some spare time on weekends to work on bringing it back up (he said that on Sunday when I asked him in game after lottery draw).

You are mistaking correlation for causation there. The spikes did happen at that time but were not caused by spleef.
When Vershye came online to start Spleef he had to call out 2 more people to join so we could have the very minimum of 8 players to begin, despite how he began to announce the event much earlier, and still the event started with only 9 players. If at least half of the players who were part of that spike were there for spleef, we should have met the minimum player requirement without having to ask in /ot for them to join. Also, server's spleef and PvP are not meant to happen on Sundays, Vershye had the initiative to host it spontaneously because we happened to have a decent amount of players online - which was a great idea, imo.
So, it was the exact opposite: The spike was not caused by spleef, spleef was 'caused' by the player spike.

I say that, before promoting any agendas, we look at the whole situation for a moment:

What I see more and more is this self-defensive attitude from several players, staff or not, who are quick to find excuses to what is happening, excuses that, in the end, always mean "it is not anyone's fault", be it to excuse themselves from the blame or to convince others that there is nothing we can't do (so that you insistent people please, please, stop complaining). Some examples maybe?

"Minecraft is an old game", "No one likes Towny anymore", "Kids only want to play minigames", "It is school period, during summer we will catch up", followed by: "It is summer vacation, people want to be outside and enjoy the nice weather"

Harry's data shows that those are not quite true - not all wrong, but not all correct either. Of course, if you look deeper you will find a lot of "buts" and "thoughs", but the overall idea is that we are actually falling behind the 'competition' and all we do is excuse and lament ourselves.

This is already a huge read so I won't go much further.
Addressing the thread's suggestion, we have players joining the server, which leave right after. Advertising alone won't help, it is like trying to compensate bad accuracy by shooting three times more bullets and praying one will eventually hit the target. We gotta make the server appealing again before advertising more.

Do we need minigames to be more appealing? We do not, that's what those graphs show. By appealing I mean have players that stay here and play, it is foolish to compare ourselves to those minigame hubs with hundreds of players when we can't even maintain our own old players active. Each player has their reason to leave, "Minecraft got boring" "I've found this other server" "I play this other game" "I'm too busy irl now" "It is summer and I want to play outside". To all those answers, what I hear is: "This server doesn't appeal to me enough" "I'd rather do something else than play here".

Again, this is already too long so I won't give my own suggestion to improve the server (yet) and hijack the thread even more, but just to try and point at some direction, no need to post anything here, just think about this and maybe come up with your own suggestion:
Think about the moment when the server appealed to you the most, the moment you'd have logging into the server at the top of your weekend's "to do" list, now think of what were your favorite things to do online: "Build" "Expose my build to my friends" "Talk in town chat" "Talk to the server in /ot" "Ride horses with my friend" "Play spleef" "Have competitions with friends/strangers" "Just stare at Driver's sexyness?" You name it. Just think about it and compare it to what we have now. Can you still do that? Is it the same as before? No? Why not? How can we revert that?

What would make the server appeal to you once again?

Although playing less currently, we would regularly still get on to do spleef/pvp. However I stopped checking as it never came about. I'd restart if those events were restarted so could add one more player to that total.

@Driver_X thank you for putting this and really I play the sever because this is how I like it I don't want PvP ect and you are also correct we have at least 10 new people each day. I don't see them for more than 10 minutes maybe its because the sever its self has split to much, we are all doing what we like but who actually checks on the person and keeps going and checking. I know I watch @asdfjkll recruit a lot but with such low amounts of people with one or two in each town no one wants to live in a ghost town. Not saying its always the case I've just had to people in one of my towns become active again because they were busy I understand everyone has lives, but mean compare the amounts from this time last year there were more long term players on at the time and also more new players. So with your self-defensive comment, I know there is more I could do I believe it isn't one persons fault, but more the who attitude of the sever which as changed.

Just a note about this. The PvP/Spleef Events never stopped. People stopped coming to them, so they didn't happen. The only time I don't try to have PvP of Spleef is if I'm on call and not at home at the time the Events are supposed to happen.

Spleef is supposed to be on Wednesday evenings. 99% of the time when I get home from work (about 20 minutes before the Event time) there are 5 or 6 people online. Definitely not the 8 that I need to run the Event.

Similarly on Saturdays, I've announced 30-60 minutes before the Event is supposed to happen that we need more signed up in order to have the event. Then about 5-10 minutes before the Event I've checked, and 1 person out of 15-20 people are signed up. I do another announcement, and zero people sign up. So, it doesn't run.

So ultimately, it's not that I'm not hosting the Events, it's that players aren't showing up for me to host them.

I am sorry but i must correct this:
There was 8 months gap since the map reset until the first new event happened.
    http://imdeity.com/profile-posts/48648/
However , the very next sentence is 100% true and we really cannot blame staff for this fact:
This is also why DeityWar happens just once in a blue moon, although the plugin is perfectly fine.

    To the first post:
If a lot of people join, why do we need fundraiser to advertise?

Year and half ago i had an exchange of opinions with staff member:
Me: "Town mayors and assistants are responsible for keeping people active, they are the first ones to teach new recruits and to offer them something to do."
Her: "We cannot command anyone to help others find something to do. People either like to play or they don't."
Whatever of these two opinions you like, helping to keep people active is regulated by 4 plots per resident and 200+2 Dei per plot daily town tax being covered by voting for inactive residents until the eventual map reset happens and if we want to change this, our gameplay system needs a massive overhaul.
