Probably he lives near a large river and/or a beach, that's where those magikarp's usually show up. I know that cause I see magikarps on the "sightings" tab and my dorm is near a river.

I live near a stream, and there is always a water type Pokemon nearby, I even found a Slowpoke by my house!

Well this staus just changed, cause I hatched a Magikarp and now have 59 candies ! :D

You need to remember I have been playing it since it came out, haven't had much time lately to play it, but there are plenty of rivers nearby, and there is a pokestop near a swimming pool, one day we put a lure on it and magikarp kept spawning so that really helped us get a huge chunk of candies

Huh, I'm still here sitting with a little over 60 candies. The eggs give you so much candy.
