Bukkit is completely dead, why are you considering making another plugin? Personally I would wait for another project, like Sponge, to be close to completion.

If you think of these checks as volumes that exist only in a certain realm, you might wanna add a function that would delete all items of the forbidden types that are thrown. In case the players try to get them in by throwing them out of their inventory over the check.

Btw, where can this be used on a server?

@lego - After passing 'security' any items added to inventory would invalidate their 'ticket', therefore throwing something out to pass and then picking it up would invalidate them.

As for a server - not sure. Perhaps a server that wants like an airport plugin or something. It's just an idea for now.
