I see you are from Scotland! Europe's not so good with jobs it seems.. anyway the situation is the same here, no experience, no nothing. All the people I know of my age found jobs because relatives own small busynesses, and they get in it. I also read of announcements saying "Needing apprentice with experience", and than my mind blow up.
*Didn't see your second comment before posting mine* That's the point, the problem. And you know what is even funnier? That stages and apprenticeships last no longer than 4 moths usually, thus giving little to none of the experience requested by companies. I only read "over 1 year" in announcements... :/
Brazil has a lot of that too. I've gratuated technician in Industrial Chemistry when I was 17, thought that'd make me sort of 'special', but all they want is experience or a recommendation letter from someone who already works for that company :( I rage quit chemistry job search this year, 4 years later xDD
