    i like cake, but bread is better being able to carry it in stacks of 64, 2.5x64=160 food things per stack. cake is hold in 1stack a thing, but heals 9 food bars in 1 whole cake. cake is way harder to make than bread, too. a good thing about cake is that you eat every piece instantly, so if you need a quick nom then cakes the thing. everything else other than cake takes time to eat, so if your not in trouble you can eat without being bothered. so really, bread is better, but its your choice. i usually take cake on my mining trips because i have stuff do most of the work that i need to make it for me. :D

    I think bread is better. You can get more food bars filled per square of farmland with bread than with cake. The only value cake has is that it is a quest item. Hmm... I need to get that completed...

    Well if you can spawn any of the two, best would be cake. The most practical however is bread. It's far easier to acquire and due to the fact that there are no chickens, surviving on it would be impossible.

    As believed to be stated by some french princess, let them eat cake instead. :D

    TL;DR Cake is awesome, but bread is more feasible.

    Cake is better, but it costs more than bread. Cake heals a total of 6 hearts, but is a pain in the *** to make. Bread on the other hand is easy to get in mass quantities, by simply making a large wheat farm. You'd have to have a cow, wheat, and chicken farm in order to keep a nice steady output of cakes. All in all, bread is better than cake. However, cake makes a nice decoration piece ;)
