Where are the animals? Where's the food?

Forgive me if I am annoying anyone with this, go easy on me. I'm new to this server, and this is my first forum post. And, hey, we needed a hippie somewhere in the forums, bringing up this tree-hugging idea.

1. One of the things I noticed is that animals are so rare. I only occasionally see a sheep get chopped up, and a cow turned into leather. Basically, what I'm saying is that most of the animals are dead, and newbs like me can't get quick food their first time in the wild. Spawn in more animals, breed a little bit, I don't know. Or am I just blind, or didn't journey far enough?

2. Seeds. I came across a field in the wild, and it was nearly bare of grass. Same thing as the animals. And again, am I just blind, or didn't journey far enough?

 

You need to go pretty damn far to find good things. At least 500 blocks. I suggest doing /go mine and traveling out 500 blocks. Then you will find animals, trees, and grass to your hearts content

 

People often make there money off animal products, so dont be suprised if there are so few animals around, as they are hunted for ''dei''.
One way to get food is to buy it, say in ''/trade anyone selling food'' and often someone will reply saying they are selling bread/pork ect.
(seeing as you called yourself a ''newb'' I assume you dont understand /tell, if you say ''im buying food'' often people send a private message, in blue, the way to return one is /tell [there name] [message] )

Often towns have wheat farms, if you join a town you are often provided with food/shelter, so you dont need to worry about a lack of food
(the way to join a town is ''/recruit Can I join a town'' and wait to see if someone replys)

NOTES:

You cannot die of starvation on this server, so there is no need to be scared about starving.

 

yeah you really gotta join a town to survive on this server, buy a plot and make a house with a bed and when you run out of food go jump into a ravine and spawn near your bed then go mining

I'm sure there's a kind soul out there willing to donate a few seeds to you. But on mark's post - food is necessary if you want to sprint

 

I mostly get my food from wheat so if u can get 1 seed, your good. Usually what can drop 0-3 seeds.

 

Get some seeds, maybe only 3 or so, and then kill some skeletons. Then, make bonemeal from their bones, and use it to grow your wheat. This makes a very nice starter farm, because you can get a lot of bread (3 bonemeal per bone) and a lot of seeds to increase the size of your farm
