Is pink a colour?

Pink is a mixture of red and white. Commonly used for Valentine's Day and Easter, pink is sometimes referred to as "the color of love." The use of the word for the color known today as pink was first recorded in the late 17th century.

Although pink is roughly considered just as a tint of red,in fact most variations of pink lie between red, white and magenta colors. This means that the pink's hue is somewhat between red and magenta.

Roseus is a Latin word meaning "rosy" or "pink." Lucretius used the word to describe the dawn in his epic poem On the Nature of Things (De Rerum Natura). The word is also used in the binomial names of several species, such as the Rosy Starling (Sturnus roseus) and Catharanthus roseus. In most Indo-European languages, the color pink is called rosa. In Persian, it is called "Souraty", meaning "Color of the face."

Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it's not a color.

 

The way the eye works is tby interpretting the reflected light (wavelength) off of a surface. That means that he color that you are seeing is what has been reflected. All other wavelengths of seeable color was absorbed by that surface.

But even then, the color is an interpretation that the eye and brain perceives. People that are color blind do not perceive color like others. For example, Red/Green to some look like the same shade of grey. I know that Blue/Yellow is another form of color blindness resulting in the same shade of grey.

As far as light versus pigment ...

Red Green Blue are the primary light colors. Red Yellow Blue are the primary pigment colors. That is the difference between science and art when comparing color wheels.

As one person said, white and black are hues, they are not colors. Adding white and black (pigments) only darkens or lightens a color. With that said .. Pink is a color because it is a shade of Red, which is a color.

If you want to get all weird with colors .. mixing all primary pigments will make brown (a tertiary pigment). If you want to get a flesh tone, it is mixing orange (a secondary pigment) with white, so flesh tone is another shade of orange.

With light, mixing all colors will result in white (a hue). No light results in black (another hue).

Colour is how you spell it in England. "color" is american.

I think it is a color, but technically, it is just a lighter shade of red. we dont give a lighter shade of green a differnet name so...

 

There are an infinite number of colors. Why shouldn't pink be one of them?

 

Pink is a light that hits a glass cube sorta thingy that makes a series of colors appear i think not sure

 

Pink is a colour. Just not a primary one.

Pink is a tint because you have to mix it with white. So it is somewhat in between, though I won't call it a color.

 

pink is technically not a colour of the visible spectrum it is a mix of white and red that is not reflected back to your eye

i see the sense in both side of the argument but i believe pink is not a colour

 

There is so much things we cannot understand.
Colours, is one of these things, because there is soooo much colours in the universe.

 

Of course it is a color. Its not a very nice one, but you can't just kick it out of the color club just for being ugly...
