Mine world

THis may be arbitrary but if there were a way to get to a minecart or a horse to get past the 500 blocks in mine world, that'd be great

 

I think he means like an added horse so you can walk through Mine's 500 blocks of nothing. Where when you get out of those, you can get back to digging.

 

Are you saying you are too lazy to walk the distance it takes to get to the mining area? So instead you want a minecart track through the 500 blocks so you don't need to put in that small extra effort?

 

Well, that is half a kilometer, R4ge. I don't think you're being fair. Say you had to walk .5 km to your house everyday. How would you feel? What are cars for?

 

Today i learned that i should feel wrong for walking 0.7 km grocery trip every day and i should use a car for it, because having to walk as short as 0.5 km is unfair.

Back on topic: The border used to be just 100 blocks, but people often dug huge ditches right next to the border, locking others in the spawn area. Pushing the border to 500 blocks distance means that people spread around more before they start digging.
Building a minecart track would deny the whole purpose of having this 500 block zone, because everyone would start right on the end of the track - you can see the same behavior around /wild teleports on main world.
Plus, running 500 blocks takes just a minute, and you have to do it just once if you dont die.

 

I walk 2.5 Km every day. If I can do it IRL then you can hold the W key for long enough to do the same in game.

Real life walking speed varies but usually is about 1.1 to 1.6 meters per second, or 4 to 5.5 kilometers per hour, or 2.5 to 3.4 miles per hour.

Walking speed in Minecraft is equivalent to 4.3 meters per second, or 15.5 kilometers per hour, or 9.8 miles per hour.

Ignoring the amusingly concerned citizens above;

Spawn eggs from /main would work in /mine, right? So you could build a horsie spawn egg using the special recipe, bring that, horse food, and a saddle into /mine, spawn your horse, feed it until it loves you, tame it, and ride it into the sunset.

Buuut, you won't get your horse into /main. Ever.

No minetrack though, that would be a waste of time and effort (given the world regeneration every few months) as well as an encouragement for everyone to go in the same direction. Covering the protected area with ice is about the same likelihood - requires some work and really only matters to occasional users.

I do recommend using a map addon to mark the edges of the mine limit. Journeymap uses waypoints that look like beacons, and display appropriately no matter where you are in the world. So even if you are digging at bedrock, you can still tell where the x/y of your waypoints are. Also, when leaving spawn, travel in one of the four cardinal directions for a shorter jog - the protected area is square, and squarely centered on spawn, so traveling diagonally would be about 707 meters.

(at 4m/sec 500m would take 125 sec, or about 2 minutes. 700m would take 175 sec, or about 3 minutes. Running speed of 5.6m brings 500m down to 1.5 minutes, and 700m to 2 minutes.)

Best bet - set a waypoint 500m due East of spawn, then take the 2 minute jog. Or ride a horse, if you have four diamond blocks to throw away.

Actually, I do have useful tips: Continuously jump while sprinting to move slightly faster than 5.6m/sec, or use speed potions and stay on the ground as much as possible. Speed II/Swiftness II (netherwart/sugar/glowstone dust) gives you the sprint speed of 7.8m/s, which would lower your time traveled to about 1 minute. I know a few people who would sell you a potion like that for just about material cost.

 

When I visit the /mine world for the first time I go far more than 500 blocks because at 501 blocks away people have started digging all around. Thus it will take longer to find ores. 1000 blocks is a good starting point so bring a boat to speed up the journey. Then mine in the direction away from spawn.
