We started 7.30 in elementary, high school and college.

My lessons for my current study start at 10.15. With 2 hours of the professors talking/showing a powerpoint/destroying a computer/showing how to do stuff/other stuff. Then there's a couple of hours of assigned time for doing related work to that days lesson, time where the professor and some tutors are present and available for questions or helping.
All my exams this year starts at 9.00

In Bosnia schools have shifts. The morning shift begins at 8:00 where I am at, but it differs from state to state from 7:00 to 8:30. The evening shift starts for me at 13:30, for other states and other schools if varies from 12:30 to 14:00. Also different states have different ways in which they change shifts, in my state shifts switch every week, in other states every month or even once a school year.

The point about having 2 shifts is to make better use of the buildings. The school buildings were made in times where only a few people went to school, but now that it is mandatory this measure is needed to keep the classrooms from being crowded.

My state has an addition to the shift system, that is the mirror system. Each week (shift change) you schedule gets mirrored, that way the classes your had in the morning of one week (where you are most fresh) are the last classes in the evening of the next week (when you are least fresh). Some teachers make use of this system to put their tests when their students are most fresh and have the best concentration.

Big School Start Time News: The Wayzata Public Schools board unanimously voted to move middle and high school start times later, utilizing existing three tier bus system. The start times are as follows
    • 1st tier: 7:45am - 2:25pm (5 elementary schools)
    • 2nd tier: High school 8:20am to 3:10pm and 3 elementary schools 8:30am to 3:10pm
    • 3rd tier: Both middle schools in district 9:10am to 4pm.
This means the Wayzata Public School systems joins Seattle Public Schools and a few other districts that changed middle and high school start times later starting in the 2016-2017 school year, with more districts following in the next month or two.

My high school starts first period at 7:00am, and the buses start picking up students a hour before that. At least I'm going to college next year so this the last year I'll ever have to deal with this, heh.

A majority of middle schools in big school districts in florida start at 9am or later, some even as late as 9:40am. One middle school in the county west of us starts at 9:25am, and all but two high schools in that same county start at 9:15am. Anne arundel county's start times plan for 2017-2018 school year calls for middle school start times no earlier than 9:30am.

I have to start at 6:00 AM here on the East Coast. Also, it doesn't help that I normally stay up almost till midnight doing homework. Yesterday, I was up at 2:00 doing Homework. Ugh. I collapsed on my desk doing work.

My School here in Queensland starts officially at 8:45am with Period 1 at 8:55am and Period 4 finishing at 2:55pm, (A Period is 70 minutes long), with two breaks. However I regularly have to leave my house at 8am and am at school quite early, as my parents need to be at work. Then I either catch a bus home, walk or am picked up, with most days not home before 3:45pm. *What a mouthful that was*

    And then there's homework... *yay*...

JH was earlier for me than HS. I would leave at about 0515 and walk to the bus stop. IIRC school actually started at 0645 or 0715 or something like that. When they moved the bus stop to the HS that was right across the street, that was a great day - I could leave a lot later and still grab a hot breakfast from the HS before I got on the bus. When I graduated and moved to a different HS, my sister drove me. She was a year ahead of me. I had to carpool a lot during my senior year because I didn't drive. My neighbor attended the same school though, so our moms would switch off. Let's see... that school started at 0750, so we would leave at 0730.

HOWEVER, later school start times always meant later school release times. JH I got out of school at 15-somthing, and I wouldn't get home until almost 1700. I'd roll in the door and wash up for dinner, and start on homework after dinner. I am very smart, though, and a lot of times I'd have the homework finished before I got off the bus. Then the rest of the evening would be mine. Homework was super sporadic though... sometimes I would be up until 2200 working on it. 2200 was my bedtime though... no entertainment on those days. I wasn't really allowed to play video games or access the internet anyway so...

In HS I got a job working at the on-campus theatre. I would come back from school around 2000 or later. HS homework was a lot less bulky though. I spent all the money on food. But those schools, I had a lot of free time I could spend writing and reading. A LOT of writing and reading, and playing Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokemon. (Yeah, in Jr. High I smuggled my Gameboy in on the regular... I had almost an hour before school would start, can you blame me?)

A note on post-high-school education: The college courses I took were so much easier than high school that I got bored and started watching anime. That was a bad idea. Recommend adjusting to anime before you enter college. Also... the Navy is bipolar in their training. I've been to 5 different "schools" that each have their own personality, not even counting basic, which only includes the most basic education that you will need before going to the next school. Nuke school was godawful. Nothing can prepare you for it and nothing can compare to it. By the end of the pipeline (3rd school) you literally work for 12-14 hours a day if you're a superb student. If you aren't... well... there's always any other rate in the Navy. Those schools are literally college-level courses. Maybe a little easier.

Amazing story you got about your secondary school life btw, now here's what I have to say. Here the high school and middle (used to be called junior high) schools start times are the opposite way around (unless you go to school in Crestview where one of the middle schools starts at the same time as the high school), high schools at 7:00am, middle school at 7:45am (except the middle school in destin, which starts at 9am), and elementary schools mixed in between 7:30am and 9:00am. Now regarding the shift in start times being proportional to the shift in end times, that does occur in most situations e.g. Seattle's decision to push back start times to 8:45am also pushed back the end times too), though sometimes the end times aren't changed (example is the Stevenson high school in Illinois which pushed its start time back from 8:05am to 8:30am). All my schools before this one got out between 2:45pm and 3:00pm; those are fine with me, even 3:15pm I would tolerate (and before people start talking about after school jobs most don't start until 4pm), now here's an example if they set high school end times too late (like 4pm). Orange County Public Schools in Orlando, Florida swapped middle school and high school start times in 2008 to save money on busing students, so middle schools got the 7:30 start time and high schools 9:30am. Unlike two other counties in Florida that switched to 9:15am high school starts in 2006 also for cost-savings by switching to a three tier bus system (Santa Rosa and St John's County), it was met with plenty of opposition (school ended past 4pm during that short-lived start times setup). It caused problems with jobs and afterschool activities e.g. marching band rehearsal and football practice, and the school board members who voted on the change got voted out in next election. The new school board rolled back the start time change the next year. That's why in many major counties in Florida with 3 tier bus system, middle schools get the latest start time, mainly because high school jobs and sports takes precedence, and elementary school parents would complain about sending their children to school bus stops in the dark (like 6:30am). There is no other place to put the middle schools in that 3-tier system, so the typical setup is High School -> Elementary -> Middle School. The early dismissal times before 2pm are also not right just as the 4pm late dismissal for high school. Majority of parents don't arrive home from work until 4:30-5pm depending on job and whether they are doing overtime, so a too early dismissal (like the 1:45pm at my school, and for those who have a no class 7th period they can leave as early as 12:50pm) leads to up to three hours of unsupervised time (provided they don't do extracurricular activities after school), and of course high school doesn't have after school care like elementary schools do. That leads to after school criminal activity for a few, peaking at around 3pm. So ending time delayed from 2 to 3 pm and start time change from say 7:30 to 8:30 am reduces the unsupervised time, AND aligns school hours with teenage sleep patterns. So a win win, less high school students thrown in jail for after school crime, and they get more sleep on school days, and don't forget those advantages of later start times.

    Many thanks,
    asdfjkll

Asdf I'm fine with my school time it's just the homework going to school for how ever long you go and then go home and put another 1-2 hours of homework it's just like (they won't want us to play mc) :( that's the thing about school.
