EULA Donator Perks

    I have created this thread to discuss possible replacements for current donator perks so that they abide by the EULA :) and to get some ideas from players on the server to possible perks. Please note this suggestion would remove current donator perks that are considered game effecting such as /fly.

    Requirements:
    Perks must be cosmetic

    Possible perks:
    • In-game tag (already a current perk)
    • Nickname (/nick limited use to once every 24hrs and has to abide by the current rules for tags)
    • Coloured chat - use of &e and other colours by using & in front of any text you wish to say. If implemented this could be limited to /trade and /recruit (only used every 5 minutes)
    • /hat (Wear the block you're holding as a hat)
    • Cosmetic Coins - This would be an in-game currency used to only purchase cosmetic perks within the game and donators could earn these coins by voting so instead of receiving just 200 dei they would also receive for example 50 cosmetic coins. These coins could be used to purchase perks such as effect trails such as fire, rain, hearts and in-game pets that will follow the player around.
    • Mob disguise (Morph into a range of mobs within game such as pigs, cows and zombies)
    • Ability to ride players (This can be toggled on and off and players who do not want to be ridden can turn this feature off)
    • Drop boosters - This perk would effect everyone on the game but can only be activated by donators. This perk would have a time out period like the current /kits in-game and when the player types /booster it will give everyone double drops on the server for 30 minutes. - Gaming Effecting Perk
    • Own NPC - This feature is currently a perk for Sponsors and is a great example of a cosmetic perk and it is not game effecting. Although this feature hasn't actually been implemented into the server with the idea of replacing donator perks it could be.
    What will happen to the old donator perks?

    These perks currently break the EULA and an alternative method of unlocking these perks would need to be created. A possible solution would be to sell individual perks in-game for dei and since everyone would have to collect dei to unlock these perks everyone would be on an even playing field.
    • Protection stones - An alternative method of getting these would be to add the commad /stone buy 1-10 (just an example number) and this would take the dei from the players balance and would permanently unlock the ability to place the amount of protection stones they've purchased. Purchasing protection stones wouldn't be cheap an estimated amount they might cost may be 10,000 dei each as they give the player to have a tax free area on the server. An alternative method to purchasing protection stones for 10,000 dei each would be to allow Craftsman to place down protection stones for a large fee and then assign the protection stone to the player.
    • Fly - Similar to the way protection stones are unlocked players would be able purchase the current VIP fly speed for an estimated 25,000 dei and then upgrade the speed of the fly for additional costs up to the current Sponsor speed.
    • Teleport to player and ascend and descend- These perks are very useful and an alternative method of purchasing these perk may be to also purchase the perks by paying in-game dei. I can only estimate the cost of these perks and the actual price would have determined by Deity himself.
    These are only some of the ideas I have thought of to be able to obtain these perks without breaking the EULA I would love to hear some of your ideas for possible solutions on how to obtain current perks.

    Anyways that sums up my suggestion :) I would love to hear any feedback any of you have about possible new perks and methods of obtaining old ones.

    The only issue with this is that this would be a mod, not a plugin. This wouldn't be doable. Other than that, really thought out suggestion :) I like it

    Woops cut that perk :)

    I was looking around for a plugin that would allow this and found this plugin http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/mobdisguise/. I don't actually know if that plugin would work since the last update on it was 2012 but I will begin my hunt to try and find an updated version :)

    Custom tag and color
    One of few legal game perks, so it deserves some improvement. Server staff blocks too many colors for themselves :) So if there would be a change to this system, let's restrict just red and dark red for staff and offer blue/turquoise colors to players, and add longer tags for some donor ranks:
    #c (red) for [Admin] or [SubAdmin]
    #4 (dark red) for [Mod], [SrMod], [HeadMod] or [Staff]
    #2 (green) and #a (lime) for VIP, Custom tag up to 6 letters instead of none as of now
    #2 (green), #a (lime), #6 (gold) and #e (yellow) for Gold, custom tag up to 8 letters
    #2 (green), #a (lime), #6 (gold), #e (yellow), #b (cyan) and #3 (teal) for Diamond, custom tag up to 10 letters
    #2 (green), #a (lime), #6 (gold), #e (yellow), #b (cyan), #3 (teal), #1 (dark blue), #9 (blue), #5 (purple), #d (pink), #0 (black), #7 (silver), #8 (grey) and #f (white) for Sponsor, custom tag up to 12 letters

    Unlike Niall, i dont support an idea for /nickname command, we can keep current system where we submit requests on portal. Neither i like the colored chat idea if it affects global channels, this would be as annoying as spam.

    "Cosmetic coins", trails, disguise
    We dont need any other money than Dei, effect trails or disguise can be based on donator rank:
    VIP can set rain trails and disguise as zombie or pig
    Gold can choose rain or fire trail and disguise as zombie, skeleton, pig or cow
    Diamond can choose rain/fire/hearts trail and disguise as zombie/skeleton/spider/pig/cow/horse
    Sponsor can choose even more trails (i really dont know what effect plugin would be needed) and disguise as even more mobs.

    Ability to ride players
    This is cool idea, especially if you can disguise as horse :) How to level this, VIP + Gold can ride and Diamond + Sponsor can ride or be ridden (together with horse disguise for these ranks)?
    commands: /horse mount playername, /horse dismount :)

    Own NPC
    The perk is mentioned on donations page since 2011... But i hope everyone agrees that having own NPC just standing on one place would be silly. I would like to have a "programmable" NPC so i can create a script scenario to make it walk around and interact with players, such as give them a tour around town or introduce them to something.
    The programming interface can be a textbox on portal so we can set it like this:
    WALK to 0, 64, 0 (X, Y, Z coordinates as on F3 screen)
    TURN to 0, 0 (rotation degrees as on F3 screen)
    WAIT 30 (seconds, delay)
    SAY Welcome! RANGE 20 (Range of 20 blocks, every player within the range gets a message in chat)
    IF attacked REMEMBER <name> SAY Don't try to hurt me, <name>! RANGE 10 (Remembering the name for further interaction).
    SAY Shh, follow me. TO <name> RANGE 20 (Whisper to a player <name> if they are within 20 blocks around)
    FOLLOW <name> (look at the player <name>)
    This is just a brief idea how the scripting could work, commands would need more development. I dont mind waiting until theres some "perfect plugin" for this, it could be part of custom Quest plugin too.

    Adding more people to forum conversation
    Not affected by Mojang EULA, so we wouldnt have to worry about them:
    VIP can invite 20 people instead of default 15,
    Gold can invite 25 people,
    Diamond can invite 30 people,
    Sponsor can invite 50 people.
    Is this feasible without issues though? i remember there was some convo with about 80 members (Mirasol christmas?) and there was some mess with posts.

    Private channels/more town subchannels on TeamSpeak
    Again not affected by Mojang EULA, idk about TS licence though. There is "Private channels" part on our TS, these channels can be created by everyone and are deleted when all people leave. Sponsors could ask for a private channel that isnt deleted, or for additional town sub-channel if they are mayor of a town.

    Group chat channels

    Basically donators would be able to start a group chat channel, the amount of people in the channel limited by donator rank (some numbers: VIP can invite 6 people, Gold 8 people, Diamond 10 people and Sponsor 12 people).

    Still there is a question - will donations for cosmetic perks earn enough to keep this server running?

    I believe riding players affects "game play." It would be like those who donated can ride animals.

    I agree with the cosmetic perks above, though here's a thing about the boosters one (direct quote to mojangs q/a about eula):
    For the purchasable with dei perks i would add two more fly speeds up to creative fly speed (which is 250% walk speed) and /tphere. I don't know about the unlimited /home usage and multihome perks since this would make it easier for new players to stick to their wilderness house and with the amount of new players wilderness would get cluttered up quite quickly, as i seen on other town servers that let players use /home as much as they want. No nickname or colored chat siding with barry's opinion, tag change still on portal as is now. The other non-eula complient perks could also go on the dei purchasing page, probably on the portal in the money tab in a seperate box called "Purchase Perks" (i'll paste in an example of that page later after i get back from vacation). In the q/a it says that existing donators can keep their existing perks as long as others are able to get them with in-game money, so existing donators wont lose the perks they have now. I like this new system niall proposed since kids can purchase most of our current perks with in-game money without having to beg their parents to buy them donation rank, which majority of parents say "no" to (just like the couple of kids that join my town and say "i cant register since my parents wont let me").

    Not going to comment on the actual post as I don't really have any opinion one way or another. :)

    I just wanted to say about this part, that since the server has been running, I believe the donations have only been enough to cover the server costs completely for like 5 or 6 months total. Deity has never worried about getting enough from donations to keep the server up and running. He covers the cost himself without complaint because he enjoys providing a place for all of us to play and have a community to call our own.

    I'm not saying this to put down what this thread is here for. Just so that we don't worry whether the server will stay running from less donation income. (which it has been with the smaller player base we have compared to the beginning. :D )

    I thought that the EULA was a bunch of BS and that no one will ever take it seriously. It undermines the open-source nature of Minecraft and Mojang was too prideful to publicly change their position on it after the whole outcry.

    Nonetheless, a revamp of the perks would be nice.

    Also, the new way flying is set up (speed reduction and spam of texts) personally urks me. I think it actually reduced my activity on the server the past few months.

    Shouldn't require a mod. We had mob disguise on the server a couple of years ago for admins. Good times.
