How about a Competition?

Here is my idea:

1. This competition would be held server wide.
2. Each town or city or village can have 1 entry.
3. Plot size must be predetermined and standard for all participants.
4. The competition would last 3 or 4 weeks to allow pleanty of time to gather resources and build.
5. The winner would be decided on how the build does the following:
a. Is cohesive within the towns established builds.
b. Enhances the town (big points)
c. Uses "new" blocks (granite, diorite, andesite and their forms, dark oak, podzol
acacia, prismarine and its forms, sea lantern, red sand and its forms, colored clay blocks, colored glass packed ice, coarse dirt, anything I missed?
d. Has a feature or features that have not been included in the town already.
e. Is completed.
6. The town gets to choose the location for the build which must be clear of other builds prior to the competition.

What do you think? Does this sound fun?

 

It seems like a regular build competition to me, but there is a few holes in your plan. First of all, you didn't state the theme for the first contest, yet I think you said the winner will decide the next theme? Also, there is no way every single town/village is going to enter, so it has to be optional.

 

This would require server-wide participation for it to be a successful event, which is iffy.

Also, 5A, and 5C may cause conflict, because newer blocks such as the ones you listed may not adhere to the town's theme. If the building contest were to happen, 5C should be replaced with "Good usage of a list of materials given by the town"

Lastly, how would it be decided what town this is held in? Is it a repetitive event?

Of course not everyone would participate. Or they could...You never know.

I agree, this would need server coordination. The more towns that participated the more fun it could be.
What I meant in 5a, was that it would basically look good in the town.
I also agree about 5c, some towns might not want to use the new blocks, however, this might encourage them to be creative and think of ways to incorporate some of these new blocks.
This would be held in any town that signed up. The plots would be clearly specified prior to the start of the building timeframe. Yes, this would mean more server coordination, yet, It could be a very good way to get town people to work together. Each town working on their single build.

Sounds like a good idea. I think not every town should have to participate and that the winner should get 2500 dei and 7500 dei added to the bank of their town to raise the incentive. Charge 500 dei per entry and find a few pledges to help pay for the prize.

But where would the event be held?

 

This is a kind of server wide event, meant to enhance each town that does participate. The plots would be marked and noted in a forum posting of the competition I suppose. I love the idea of event prizes.

 

Yeah I meant that "not everyone has to participate" bit for the people who are worried that not everyone will.

 

A lot of folks asking where it would be held, I think Olivere means to have each participant build in his or her respective towns, if that is an issue we could always host the event in volantis, not much happening there these days, can I be a judge in that case?

I would expect that vershye will be holding a buildoff in creative before too long.. A new winter themed event, or maybe another Halloween one.
