Wilven, Thank you for offering up the suggestions. If we look beyond some of the earlier negative statements that were made about the server then i think there are some truly valid points in there. However, it seems that the negative aspects might have soured the pool a bit and given you a tough audience. It is not worth all the effort to try to convince everyone to agree with your suggestions as there will always be someone who will disagree. The main goal should simply be to have openly stated your suggestions so that staff can consider them. That has definitely been accomplished and a part of your suggestion will be implemented in the short term. I don't think we need to continue to fuss over the validity of the poll results.

Please don't feel discouraged from making future suggestions. Personally, i always appreciate hearing ideas from our players.

You're right. The validity of the poll results and the poll in general as derailed this topic a little. I still wish to keep discussing this though as I wish to hear other peoples opinions on what has been raised.
I appreciate you being so honest and pleasant.

Edit: I'm also really thankful you took the time to consider some of the points made and put something into action.

I feel all the other points of your thread have been addressed quite well already, so I will give my opinion only for the 'limitations' part:

The reason why such blocks are still unobtainable through mining is that, for gaming in general, we need objectives and challenges rather than ease, sometimes.

Minecraft is a very open game where any player can do anything. For new players the base game might still pose a challenge on its own, but here we have players who were able to mine so many Diamonds that its market price crashed down 24-22 to 9-7 dei in a couple of weeks. At that time, contrary to what you would imagine, there were many complaints about it - having cheap Diamonds easily available at the mall, for some reason, wasn't a good thing for the community.

Netherrack, Nether Bricks, Endstone, Glowstone, Quartz.. All those items are so easy to find in their respective worlds that their price would be next to the price for Stone in days and all the interest/value of them would be gone. Basically, the best way found by the Admins to maintain (or actually create) value for certain items was to 'artificially' limit the access to them.
Without a big stretch, it is possible to see that being also true for Redstone, Potions and Enchanted Tools. If even with the very limiting Craftman-only enchant Fortune 3, Unbreaking 3, Efficiency 5 Diamond Pickaxes are already being being sold for 1k dei (2k was a good price before reset), imagine if every single player could transform their excess of xp into enchanted tools.

Reminds me of the first weeks after the implementation of the custom recipes: A player was complaining in the global chat about how expensive the recipe for Sea Lanterns was, how it made too hard for them to finish their construction that *had* to use Sea Lanterns for illumination. After the discussion ceased, a different player made a suggestion that the server should have a set of 'custom achievements' and that first player jumped into the conversation saying that it was a great idea, because the server really needs something players can strive for...

To finish, here is a quote from Smcallah found in the thread "The Nether, Restrictions, and the Deciding Factors":

My issue with this all comes down to the basis of what this server is about. One of the biggest part of Minecraft and this server is building. We have custom plugins that make it easy for players to have protected plots where they can build to their hearts content without worry of greifing. Yet we limit them to what they can build with because we want certain items to be expensive? And while I like the custom crafting idea, it is not exactly practical. Players need to learn a new set of recipes that are completely different than the ones they've learned over the last 5 years, all to create an item that they should just be able to collect anyway? And the fact that those items have such expensive recipes that we only ever see super rich players use them.
For example, players love using Quartz to build with, yet at the moment it takes at least 18 Iron ingots to make 1 block of it.

Fixing the economy by artificially making some items harder to get than they should be sounds like a cop out method of dealing with a larger issue.

For me it all comes back to the same thing. By not enabling the Nether, we are taking away players ability to play the basic game. Everybody who has ever played Minecraft understands that if they need Quartz, Glowstone etc they go to the Nether to get it. When players join the server that's what they expect to be able to do which is why we get so many forum posts from people asking why the Nether isn't enabled.

I will reply properly when I get home from work
Custom recipes are a huge turn off to long term players like me, who every day get less and less time to play, so not only do i have access to less blocks, i can afford less of them.
My productivity goes down, i get bored and frustrated.

Redstone... does it mean rising placement costs?
Potions, srsly? Potions are more useful in PvP, so rising their prices here will make little to no change.
And rising enchant prices artificially means just more rage with accidental mining world crashes and more people upset from waiting for Deity to port them back there to hopefuly get their inventories back.

Wilven, there is one enemy bigger than material cost, when it comes to building. When you start building, you have to protect it. It is not the cost of materials that limits us in building, it is the town tax. If you cannot afford to pay for protecting your builds, then you dont need any Nether, Deity Shop, player shops or custom recipes.
I am sorry for bringing this into public, but let me remind you that your town fell into debt because of tax and was seconds from being deleted, and be glad that Cobrex was online and donated his money to your town bank to save your town.

Heinz, having to pay for materials means we would have less money to cover town tax. Wouldnt that be frustrating for a long time player who knows that he has to pay the town tax for long months and years? Custom recipes may not be as productive as clicking the Deityshop sign, they save us some money that we can use elsewhere, for example to buy these materials from shops, and although market was expensive at first, the competition made costs on the market lower than those that we used to have in Deityshop. See my first and last post here to compare: http://imdeity.com/threads/old-deityshop-prices-vs-new-custom-recipes.19196/

Wow, another one of these posts.
The same post as dozens before, tackling the same issue, recognizing the same problems, offering the same solutions, receiving the same response and achieving the same amount of change- none.

It is fair for you to bring that up because that did happen and I wont pretend it didn't. But it wasn't because of any reason like I couldn't afford it or that taxes were too high. It was because I just decided to leave because of the aforementioned things in my initial post. I've come back now, giving the server another go because of how great the community is on here and the friends I've made.
The maximum tax for a plot is 30dei, wich means even if a player votes, that gives them 6 days of protection, and even if they can't pay, their plot is still protected until the town staff decide to kick them which very rarely happens.

If I could ask you a question Barry, Are you personally for or against enabling the Nether? And if so/not then why?

Well hopefully the more this is regurgitated, the more it will be recognized and there will be greater opportunity for the staff to consider some points made. There is never anything wrong with bringing up old suggestions or opinions. Like when players make posts about the Nether and instantly get shot down because they didn't use the forum search button to find a thread made years ago that would tell them reasons why it isn't enabled. Most new players don't even realise you can search the forums, especialy as most of our players are children.

    1. I am against enabling the Nether in the Main World. It would be either griefed for resources or it would need another system of land claiming. The only possible benefit of having the Nether is faster travel, but it would need to allow creating Nether portals with all consequences.

    2. I am undecided about enabling the Nether in the Mining World. There is no protection necessary and it can be reset when the Mining world is reset, but i am okay with using Deity Shop and custom crafting recipes instead of the Nether, especially because this way is easier for me.

It takes time to learn all this, it takes time to make, time is money. Money that could be spent saving time.

I would rather just be able to go and harvest/mine those items.

I agree on how making kids give out their emails to register on the forums is kinda too much on them (some of them don't even have an email account at all). I think for the start the following change should be made:
    • The "kicked after 7 days from town if not registered thing" needs to be removed from the Kingdoms plugin in its entirety.
    • Unregistered players should be able to claim up to four plots in a town, they will need to register if they want more than four.
    • The /vault can have an addition added to it where someone can do /vault sell # (max is 40 as per what the portal page says)
I agree with Barry that the nether needs to stay off of the main world due to all of those reasons he said above. About the nether in the mining world, I do support having that in there since it'll provide them a place to mine nether materials as in the base game. As flint and steel is disabled, a nether portal should be set up at the mining world spawn (like how the hub was in its vanilla world days), and a /nether command could be added as well if necessary. Custom recipes for sea temple-related blocks and blocks in the End world should remain as sea temples do not spawn in mining world and I don't believe that an End world is necessary.

Limitations and Their Effect (I will talk about the craftsmen portion of this)
The craftsmen placing stuff can be seen as annoying to some, but the redstone part is there for a reason: to prevent the lag that's associated with those large redstone circuits. The only thing that craftsmen can place for a fee that should be made a free-for-all for everyone to use is water and ice, the other craftsmen placing fees can remain. Some perks I would like craftsmen to have added is gate signs, drawbridges, and the ability to make colored text on signs like the signs in the capital area. This would make craftsmen class more useful and everyone will benefit from the craftsmen's ability to make such special signs.

Deity set it up this way on purpose and unless he's changed his mind about it, this won't be changed. Deity has the portal/forum integrated with the in game plugins and therefore requires that players be registered in order for everything to work.
That would be a nice function, but only Deity can add it as it's part of the portal.

This is already covered in many places and has been answered by smc multiple times. That, and I really don't have any opinion on it myself.

The cost to place water/ice won't be removed, otherwise it will just be free reign for new players/griefers to place wherever they want and cause way too many problems. Deity's made that decision a long time ago, hence the cost being added to Ice as well as water. As for the other craftsman perks, they are planned. The problem is finding updated plugins that actually function the way we want them to in order to use them.
