Minecraft Name Changes

    Hello Players of ImDeity,

    Name changes have been implemented by Mojang today, and since no announcement has been made advising the players not to use this new feature, I feel as though one should be made public.

    Do not change your name if you're a frequent player on this server.

    If you change your in game name, you will lose access to everything tied to your former username including (but not limited to) donations, iConomy account, class/rank, and the town you're a part of and your position in said town.

    Name changes can be redone after 30 days of the name change, so if you've already changed your name you'd have to wait until those 30 days are up to change your name back to what it was before.

    To save time and trouble, do not change your name unless you want to start over as a new player.

    If you changed the name already:

    - you should still be able to access your old portal account to sell remaining gold in vault and transfer all Dei to your new ingame account.
    (i assume that Deity will never do this manually even for donors to prevent accidental duping)

    - you have to /register to get access to forums, then you can pick a class and start ranking up, join a town etc.
    - ask the mayor or assistant of your old town about your house and items. Give them some proof that its still you (forum convo from the old forum account should be good proof).


    EDIT - Thanks to Niall for doing some testing with donor commands:

    donor perks based on name (e.g. these are lost if you changed your name):
    - chat tag and white colored name

    donor perks based on UUID (e.g. you should be able to use these even after you changed the name):
    - home location (/home command)
    - flying (/fly command)
    - teleportation (/tpa command)
    - virtual chest (/chest command)
    - virtual crafting table (/workbench command)
    - donor info on player stats page (imdeity.com/player/name)
    - tool kit (/kit command) - this took some time to update though.

    I bet all of the people that rushed to change their names will be trolled in 30 days by all the people waiting to steal their names before they can change back.

    I can't wait until hilarity ensues.

    Luckily, Mojang anticipated this and has made it so that a player's name is reserved to them for 37 days after they change it (so they have a week to change back before someone can steal it).

    Still, changing names is a terrible idea.
