Shelf(biome?) looks gorgeous! I hope that these can be put in all around mountain biomes!

Comparison between vanilla Plains (left side) and custom Fields (right side): Plains are more rugged (hills, lakes, lava lakes) and have an abundance of grass and flowers, Fields are very smooth, almost flat with occasional forested bumps or swamp basins.

Savanna used as a border biome for Desert - yay or nay?
    2014-12-21_17.47.47.png
EDIT: so far its rather "nay" to me, needs a Steppe between Plains and Desert.

Could the border biome be mountainous? Maybe rock and gravel?

First i have to find out how to place temperature gradients, then we can fiddle with elevation ;)

I realised TC doesnt let me to have two border biomes for the same normal biome, but it lets me to have a border biome for another border biome. Specifically i wanted to have a Steppe (custom, treeless savanna) between Desert and Plains and a Savanna between Desert and Forest. Conclusion - i will have a Steppe between Desert and both Plains and Forest and a Savanna between a Steppe and Forest. A bit of inception there.

I love oceans but if someone starts a town on its edge it will prevent others from building near it. Everyone will want lots of grow room for their towns. Maybe having deep lakes all over so more towns can build boats or what ever.

If we have twilight meadows biome will the deer and birds spawn. I wish we could have something like a safari net or entity mover on the server. Maybe sell more animal spawn eggs at /goshop?

So is this basically confirming an upcoming reset? Maybe it's not, but to me it seems like it...

Beautifully put, but it will probably take a bit longer ;).

Now I haven't read all of it, but I have a comment on one point of yours so far, your comment on not having the world be 2/3 water. One of the main problems I think with this map is that everyone just went off and did their own thing. There are 44 towns on the current map. I bet if I were to quiz people on all the existing towns, just having a sheet of paper numbered 1 to 44, that the majority would get a 50% and below. Luckily, we don't have to worry about pop quizzes here on ImDeity. Where this is applied, however, is when it comes down to population and retention.

There are mayors like Barry, and mayors like me. Mayors like Barry tend to their town and ensure a fun environment for their townspeople. Mayors like me recruit people, let them do whatever they want, and then quit for a while. People like me should not be able to make a town. I am not saying to restrict who can make a town, or to set a cap on the number of towns able to be made, but instead to not give us a bounty of land. Give us a decent amount that can sustain maybe a dozen large towns. 12 unique, different, and interesting towns. This would increase population per town, which in turn hopefully retains more players for the server.

I'll read the rest for sure and probably have a few more comments :).

One thing that I would like to see is either a revamp of placing water or changing the requirements for craftsman upgrades. Farming is one of my favorite parts of Minecraft, but it becomes pretty much useless if I can't place water. I would love to be a Laborer, but I'm not a builder. I'm essentially a secretary, doing town stuff is what I'm good at. However, I still love making farms and things and it bothers me that I can't do that without being able to build a 1:1 scale replica of The Citadel (which, might I add, are two separate things entirely.)

The only thing I can come with off the top of my head is a sub-class of craftsman that is limited to the things commonly found in farms, water being the main focus. I dunno, whaddya want from me? I'm a computer guy. I'm no civil engineer. Bad ideas are my specialty.

This is basically me. I'm a senior assistant in caldera and a craftsman class. Tbh it is good to have a few craftsmen in your towns staff as they can replace say, a fountain if it was damaged somehow. Also, you don't have to be a good builder to be a craftsman, it's got nothing to do with it really, i have 0 building skills, but I'm still a craftsman rank and Im on my second creative plot. And I can tell you now your creative build doesn't have to be to spectacular to look at, while aesthetics are helpful, as long as your build is creative and original, you should pass.

There's a desert in Chile, Atacama Desert, that's high in the mountains, which get a lot of snow in the winter time since it's near the Antarctic. So it's completely possible to have sand areas next to snow areas. Just so you know. :)

So you are plotting town conflicts and hoping to see arguing over small piece of land?

For one, this is off topic for the thread. This thread is a discussion about the generation of the world map, so let's try to stick to that.

Second, I didn't realize "become rank 1 (aka. claim your first plot)" was that difficult of a requirement in order to gain the ability to place water. You don't even have to build anything if that's as far as you want to go in that class.

If you want to advance further in a class based on building, then you have to prove some decent building skills. Other than that, the rank you're wanting the class perks for (farming; laborer) takes no building at all.

Ah, for some reason I thought we were talking about stuff we would like to see. My bad, heh. Other than that, were the perks changed? I could have sworn (and this is probably from a long time ago) that I couldn't place water until I built something. Oh well, ignore me then.

Nope, it's always been just to claim your first creative plot. Was the easiest way to make them somewhat familiar with the creative world and at least get started over there.

Lets make these numbers more accurate: We need about 6 normal (non-isle, non-border) biomes: Ocean (20%), Desert (with Savanna, 10%), Plains (with Swamps, 20%), Forest (with Roofed Forest, 20%), Taiga (with Birch Forest and Mega Taiga, 10%), Extreme Hills (10%). Remaining 10% can be taken by Jungle or rare biomes or used to upscale Plains as the easiest biome to build towns. Vanilla has Forests, Birch Forests, Jungles, Roofed Forests, Taigas, Mega Taigas... plenty of forests, but just one variant of Plains. Time to make more and fit them to the system - Sea is a custom biome to replace Ocean, Fields is a custom biome to add to Plains.
    BiomeSize:1, BiomeRarity:20 = Sea
    BiomeSize:2, BiomeRarity:10 = Fields
    BiomeSize:3, BiomeRarity:10 = Desert
    BiomeSize:3, BiomeRarity:10 = Plains
    BiomeSize:3, BiomeRarity:20 = Forest
    BiomeSize:3, BiomeRarity:10 = Taiga
    BiomeSize:3, BiomeRarity:10 = Extreme Hills
I havent used Jungles or Roofed Forests but i have "islands" of Mega Taiga in normal Taiga biome and Steppe/Savanna borders around Deserts - they have the same color on the map as plains/forests though.
    The map looks like this:
    2014-12-22_21.52.32.png
Again some numbers, it covers 2000x2000 area and the X,Z dimensions have been downscaled 8 times so it would be 16000x16000 in full scale.
The main question is, is this amount of Sea (dark blue) okay or too much? The two large seas on right side would be about 6000x4000 blocks.

EDIT: time to add some mountains... i call this "Badlands"
    2014-12-23_00.31.59.png

    EDIT2:
Towns on ocean shore may also be an obstacle for travelling on a horse if they decide to set private access on their plots, but you can always build a bridge thousands of blocks long. To answer the second part, no animals other than vanilla ones can spawn - you got used to FTB too much :)

EDIT3: Decided to set Flower Forests as small biome islands in Fields, Plains and Forests.
