Fun fact: The yellow and red cards are kept by the judge in different pocket. One is in the pocket of the shirt the other in the right back pocket of the shorts. This was instituted a while back when people had black and white tv sets so that the people watching back at home would know if the player got a red or yellow card.

(Fun Fact #2) In addition, if, as an assistant referee (the sideline guy with the flags) you see something that warrants a card, you are supposed to get the referee's attention, then pat the shirt pocket or right back pocket to let the referee know what color card the player to whom you think a card should be given should get.

Germany starts playing in 24 minutes. It will be a hard one for Germany but ofc I am with Germany. :p My bet Germany vs. Portugal 2-1. Anyways: The more goals for Germany the better. ;)

Btw: Do not take away my Soccer fun facts, I need a lot more since I want to post one every day. ;)

Here a German fun fact: The German name for Germany is Deutschland. This word is hard to shout/sing for the crowd. So there are funny songs and comedy scenes in Germany about people just screaming "schland". ;) Fun for Germans at least. :p

Btw: The matches so far were all good in my eyes. Except one... France vs. Honduras was aweful, too many fouls, too many people on the ground to often, too many yellow cards (deserved ones) and one even yellow-red. Disappointing, though there have been 3 goals.

Gratz, US-team! a bit over 30 seconds into the game and you got the first goal! :) But calm it, I voted 1-2 for you. :p Anyways with our former German striker, then national trainer of Germany as yours now, you will win this. :) I prolly be in bed before the end of the game, so end results will be up some time tomorrow!

I really don't care much for soccer; however, for my foreign language class I had to give a research presentation on Uruguay, so I'm very happy they beat England.

    Hey there,
thanks for telling. Figured actually there would be more errors, since the names differ in English and German a lot. Colombia is Kolumbien in German, so yeah I know where this error is coming from. ;)

Unfortunatly England is very disappointing. I put my bet on England and Germany in the finals, but for England it definately does not seem like it. However England in the finals was a surprise for myself, but it was how I expected the matches to be.

I am very excited about Germany's second game tomorrow against Ghana. I bet on 2-0 for Germany. However I would assume it will be more goals, since Germany's start against Portugal was so amazing. The USA has to go against Portugal tomorrow. Next Thursday it will be Germany against the USA... :)

As much as Germany. :) But yeah, since I am German, my heart beats for the German national team. However I am also with the Netherlands and the USA. Even a few African teams since they show much more will to win than some European or South American teams, that are regarded as "better".

Btw: As a German I would have to say: I even hold with the Netherlands since there is the eternal fight between our countries regarding soccer.

Regarding England I have one thing to add: I was very happy that Rooney scored, even if they lost. I felt so sorry for him, it was this bit of luck missing in all his attempts before. Hope the team can pull up their socks now. However it seems too late for England if I see what Costa Rica is just doing now...

Australia did do every well. We played/are playing Chile (16th), Netherlands (2nd) and Spain (1st). Yet Australia is still Number 62nd. We have done incredibly well even making it to the cup was a magnificent achievement, and playing as well as we have is excellent.

    ~Hammer

Who should I go for now, that Australia is out of the World Cup? Any Ideas?

Group G is quite the group. No one has gone through yet; it's all up to the last games between Germany - US and Ghana - Portugal. I have Germany - US at 2-1 and Ghana - Portugal at 2-2.

Since some of my previous bets are not possible after the group round, I would like to start a new round of betting right here. :) Anyone in for that? Message me by Friday, maybe I will offer some of my own Dei for people betting right or we put in Dei and the one with the right bets get the whole pot. :)
