Not sure if this is the right place, but yeah.

So, it's no secret that people vote for accounts other than theirs. And there is no way to track the votes. etc, etc.

But I was just taking a look at Minestatus, and is it really fair to be voting for the inactive people? I get it's good for the server, but is it fair to do to the rest of the Minecraft community? I used to vote for my residents to get money, because we are all super greedy, and want money(at least I am.) But the people who have towns, don't need the money most of the time. So just think, is it fair to the other servers, to be unfairly gaining votes? I'm not saying the staff needs to take action against this, but this is just directed to the people who vote for their residents. It's one thing to vote to breakeven, but it's another to vote like crazy. I have some interest in which town would be on the top if it was active residents, instead of who can vote the most.

Blah here has a good point. We can't be the only server in the world that has people voting for accounts they don't own. Any IP address in the world can vote for 1 minecraft account per day. It doesn't matter if that player has been on the server or not (99% sure, correct me if I'm wrong), the server will still get a vote.

I'm sure this goes on for other servers as well, but other than getting more players for the server and certain players on the server benefiting from it, I see no downsides for people voting for residents.

yes but if you are happy to live a lie then thats fine. personally if i were to look on minestatus and say oh they have lots of players, i would be disappointed when i arrive on the server and find out the majority is inactive

But as there is no way to track or enforce it the only real other option is for Deity to remove players from towns who have not logged in for 3 months or whatever,. that way people would not gain anything for their town, but if they still wished to give the server a vote for that player then they still can.

That would show peoples true colors if they only vote for inactives because they are their townies.

But all of those suggestions i make suck. and i wouldnt want it to change.

It will never be fair for everyone.

I've seen some servers offer huge supplies by voting, so in my opinion , we aren't "cheating" at the minecommunity.
Anyway, people around our cubic world can give a fake image of activity for their server, but that's all, there's no way to hide the inactivity once you've logged, and then people will bail out to find out a better place. Also activity doesn't mean that the server is good, people will have to dig their way to find a server they like, so I don't think that it's a large problem.
(And they will end up here :p )

    I can't say it's something nice though. .-.

PS. I'd like to have a way to sort towns by activity xD

No matter how voting is done for servers there will always be a server or two that pads votes on just to stay on top whether its for actives or inactive members of the server. a sever will do what a server will do :D

We've talked about this in the staff and we have no problem with it, for the following reasons:

    - Every vote for the server helps the server being higher on the lists, thus brining in more people.
    - Everyone can only vote once every account, thus everyone has a maximum.
    - Everyone can only vote once per IP, proxies and exterior networks being the exception, thus allowing for more votes from one pc/person.

    ___
The system can be abused by having multiple accounts, however this is not such a big problem and most people are too lazy to vote for all of them.

Why should we even disallow people voting for others?

It brings in more votes and it doesn't hurt inactive players, nor the active players. There's no way to prevent this from happening, nor would we want to. I can imagine that there are more then a fair share of servers out there that do the same, I don't mind people here evening the odds.

As numerous others have said, voting benefits the server quite a bit. This is just me, but personally I'd like to see towns sorted by resident number.

I dont recall ever voting for another server so i cannot testify to that, although i would bet money that you are correct.

It may not be fair as a money maker for those who are willing to take the effort to vote, personally i dont have time.
But the server still needs those votes to attract more players.

In an ideal world more players would want to vote and be more active in the long run, though that can only happen if they have a minecraft experience like no other that will make them want to stick around.

And that last point is on everyones shoulders as a community. xD
