I wanted to have a discussion on the current chat system for ImDiety. The channels, color, ect. Back when I played with ImDeity years back, the channels were perfect. The text was all color coded, global was green, ot was grey, ect. The best part though was you could disable the channels individually. What I've been confused on lately though is why the same rules apply with the new chat system.
If you're forced to see ot and global the exact same way, why separate them? Same for the rest of the channels, if you're forced to see them in the same color (help channel being an exception) what is the point in making people use different ones? I truly believe something needs to change be it the rules or the fact we have the same color channels or even that we can't leave channels at will.
    What about everyone else?

    Heya!
It wasn't perfect, it seemed perfect. When you joined the server at time ago, you were learning about the different colours, lay-outs etc. You got used to them, so once the colours and lay-outs changed, you had to get used to it.

In my experience, I had to get used to the new lay-out and really look twice what channel people used, when the channel names were changed. Though, months (almost a year, I think) later, I got used to it.

Because different channels actually do tidy up the chat. This makes everything more clear to me, being a OCD-kind of person (but that's my problem :p).

I do agree with you that this was a useful feature. Though, I'm not allowed to leave any channels due to my Sr. Moderator thing, but yeah; it's useful for you guys :D

Hope you appreciate my input :)

Custom channel colors and the ability to ignore an entire channel are features that will be coming to the ImDeity ModPack very soon. As will logging of the chat channels so you can pull up old content.

Well, there is absolutely no way to differentiate Trade, Recruit, and OT other than a small tag in the far left corner. Nothing, other than what may or may not be put in it. They're all global and all the same color.

Good, that's actually going to be extremely useful and help me personally distinguish between channels..

Im not sure if there's a pre-existing place, but here's the rundown:

There are a few channel examples in that image. The last set of bracket before the person's name indicates what channel they spoke in. It's not always present, but if there's a set of brackets before the channel it will show the world they're on. For instance, the last message shows that i was in the Main world and spoke in the Global channel.

    List of worlds:
    • Main - where all of the cities are located. to travel to this world type /main
    • Mine - where we go to get resources. there are no ores in the main world. type /mine to get to this world
    • PVP - where you can play on our faction server. This server runs off of it's own currency system. to get here type /pvp
    • War - this is one of our mini games. You'll see messages in chat that advertise when it will start. Type /go war (i think) to join up before it starts.
And here's a list of PUBLIC channels

    • OT - off topic - this is where any general conversation will go. you'll primarily use this and everyone will see what you type
    • G - global - this is just like off topic but the text comes up as white. Honestly, as i understand it, there's not much point to this channel. It'd be better if it only spoke within your current world, but i'm not sure that it does that.
    • L - local - this is only visible to people that are within 100 blocks or so of you. Use this if you're having a convo with someone close by.
    • TC - town chat - this is where you talk to people that are in your town
    • KC - kingdom chat - only people within your kingdom will see
    • TRADE - trade chat - everyone will see this. use it to advertise that you have something for sale or want to buy something. or if you're offering services
    • RECRUIT - recruitment - used when you're advertising a town for people to join
    • H - help channel - use this if you have a question. it comes up as bright yellow.. so make sure it's a question or you'll quickly get yelled at for abusing it.
    • .... there are some PVP channels as well, but they're a bit more complicated so i wont go into those here.
To speak into a specific channel just type /CHAN in front of it.. replacing CHAN with the channel code you want. here are examples:

/l i'm only talking so people around me can see
    /ot anyone can see this
    /tc hi town members!
    /trade anyone selling wool?

We also have a private message system.
To send a message privately so that only the recipient sees it you can do:
/w otherGuy here is a private message
When you receive a message from someone else it will look like this:
When you want to reply to the person you can do the aforemementioned /w wilku01 bla bla bla
OR you can use the quick response shortcut:
    /r bla bla bla
The catch is that the /r command will reply to the last person that messaged you.. so if you're having two whisper conversations at the same time it could be dangerous.

and to see who's online you can do a few things:
    • Press TAB to see a dropdown window that shows all players online in all worlds
    • type /list or /who to see players online in your world
    • type /glist to see a list of all players grouped by the world they're in
    • and if you're typing a person's name you can type part of it then hit tab and it will auto-complete their name if they're online in your world.

Chat system on this server uses several channels:

    Local channel
You are supposed to use local channel whenever talking to people that are close to you. Maximum range of local channel is 100 blocks, people who are further away from you do not receive your messages. Any topics (except for those violating server rules) or languages are allowed.
Local channel messages begin with [l] in game chat and message color is light gray.
use /l message to send message into local channel.
use /ch l to switch your default channel to local.

    Global channel
You are supposed to use global channel only for game-important chat. Global channel reaches everyone who is online in any of worlds. Use english only.
Global channel messages begin with [g] in game chat and message color is white.
use /g message to send message into global channel.
use /ch g to switch your default channel to global.

    Offtopic channel
Default channel (unless you set different channel as default). Offtopic channel reaches everyone who is online in any of worlds. English is preferred, other languages are allowed. Any topics (except for those violating server rules) are allowed.
Local channel messages begin with [ot] in game chat and message color is light gray.
use /ot message to send message into offtopic channel.
use /ch ot to switch your default channel to offtopic.

    Help channel
Only for server-related questions and answers to them, other topics are forbidden. Help channel reaches everyone who is online in any of worlds. Use english only.
Help channel messages begin with [h] in game chat and message color is yellow.
use /h message to send message into global channel.

    Trade channel
For trading items, money, price checks etc. Trade channel reaches everyone who is online in any of worlds but you cannot send messages into trade channel elsewhere than in main world. English will bring you more answers than gibberish.
Trade channel messages begin with [trade] in game chat and message color is light gray.
use /trade message to send message into trade channel.

    Recruit channel
For advertising to join a town, or asking to join a town. English will bring you more answers than gibberish.
Recruit channel messages begin with [recruit] in game chat and message color is light gray.
use /recruit message to send message into recruit channel.

    Town channel
When you join a town, you can use town channel to talk with other members of your town. Town channel reaches all town members that are online in main world.
Town channel messages begin with [TC] in game chat and message color is light gray.
use /tc message to send message into town channel.

    Kingdom channel
If your town is member of a kingdom, you can use kingdom channel to talk with people from other towns in kingdom. Kingdom channel reaches all kingdom members that are online in main world.
Kingdom channel messages begin with [KC] in game chat and message color is light gray.
use /kc message to send message into town channel.

    Whisper
If you want to talk to one person only, you can use whisper. The person has to be in the same world, e.g. it is impossible to whisper from Main to Creative for example.
use /tell name message to whisper.

    How to read chat message
    [ot][main][grumpy]BarryX15: Hello everyone
[ot] = message in offtopic channel
[main] = message has been sent from main world
[grumpy] = my donator tag (people who donated can have tags in front of their names, see imdeity.com/donate)
BarryX15 = my name (player names are light gray, donator names are white)
    Hello everyone = message itself

How to check who is online
Use /glist to see list of online players in all worlds
Use /list or /who to see list of online players in world you are currently in
Use /t info to see online players from your town

    Yay, i win :)

Btw, I think we both typed all that out for nothing :p i found the chat guide in the wiki in a couple places. Granted, A mod should update both of them to match the current system... OR the wiki should allow player update submissions that could be approved by a mod if they're accurate :) :)
