    We have colored names in Deity War, so using colors on names is possible. Another server shows MCMMO power level under player's name, like this:
    [IMG]

    Instead of MCMMO power level, we could have colored stars.
    That means, newbies will notice that stars belong to one person standing in front of them, and they may ask what are those stars for. Good time to start explaining them how server works and how to get stars.
    Also members can show off their achievements to others.

    Most important: star (or stars) would show our class and rank name. No need to spam chat with them.
    Colors: &2 (green) &9 (light blue) and &6 (gold)
    * = Craftsman - Worker
    * = Merchant - Trader
    * = Nobility - Squire
    ** = Craftsman - Laborer
    ** = Merchant - Vendor
    ** = Nobility - Lord
    *** = Craftsman - rank 2
    *** = Merchant - rank 2
    *** = Nobility - rank 2
    etc.

    In creative world, promotions/plots are important.
    Colors: &7 (silver)
    * = 1 plot (no promotion)
    ** = 2 plots (1 promotion)
    *** = 3 plots (2 promotions)
    etc.

    We can express our addiction by showing off online time.
    Colors: &8 (grey)
    * = active (10 days = 240 hours online time)
    ** = experienced (30 days = 720 hours online time)
    *** = veteran (100 days = 2400 hours online time)
    **** = retired (500 days = 12000 hours online time)

    Something for girl competition :) how many friends can you collect?
    Colors: &d (pink)
    * = friendly (10 players have him/her on friendlist)
    ** = popular (30 players have him/her on friendlist)
    *** = awesome (100 players have him/her on friendlist)
    **** = too sexy (500 players have him/her on friendlist)

    Are you good at DeityWar?
    Colors: &5 (purple)
    * = DeityWar top 100
    ** = DeityWar top 30
    *** = DeityWar top 10
    **** = DeityWar top 1

    EDIT (as Steph suggested): Do you do quests ?
    Colors: &1 (dark blue)
    * = 10 quests done
    ** = 30 quests done
    *** = 100 quests done
    **** = all quests done

    EDIT (as Rmar suggested): Do you participate in events?
    Colors: &0 (black)
    * = winner of 1 event
    ** = winner of 10 events
    *** = winner of 30 events
    **** = winner of 100 events

    Other stars that came on my mind, possibly special awards given by server staff:

    Colors: &e (yellow)
    * = helper - for people helpful to others (quick and satisfying answers to noob questions, no trolling, etc)
    Colors: &a (lime green)
    * = reward for good show in build-off competitions
    ** = build-off competition winner
    *** = server builder (pvp arenas, war maps, capital build team etc.)
    **** = strydier

    Last but not least, staff members can have their staff rank name listed there:
    Colors: &3 (teal), &b (cyan), &4 (red), &c (coral),
    [Mod]
    [Sr.Mod]
    [Head Mod]
    [Sub-Admin]
    [Admin]

    Stephfork would be good example:
    ** = she is Nobility-Lord class and rank
    *** = she has 3 plots in /creative
    *** = she spent more than 100 days online
    *** = everyone loves her or at least stalks her
    *** = she is one of most fearsome warriors
    ** = she did over 30 quests
    * = she won at least one event
    * = she is helpful (when she isnt too sassy)
    ** = and she won holiday buildoff event
    So under her name, there should be line of stars:
    ********************

    Color &f (white) is still not used in this suggestion, and colors i already mentioned may be better suitable for other use. Any ideas for them, any ideas what else we could get stars for?

    EDIT: Issues we know about:
    - coding of plugin or plugins, handling of all counting from various databases
    I have no coding skills to help with this, so i have to wait for miracle

    - someone may be annoyed by flooding screen with stars when many players meet at one place
    Commands to toggle: /stars off and /stars on (default is on)
    This may be very difficult to implement, maybe using dots instead of stars will save enough screen space, however dots are not well visible.
    Another solution may be that only players standing close to you would have their stars shown (this works with power level display on that another server, i just didnt manage to catch it on screenshot).

    People could just farm stars by killing each other.

    Is there a way to quickly explain to someone, in game, what the stars mean?

    So, are you planning on having an in game legend to show what everything means? Because without that, all you're going to get are random people constantly flooding chat asking what all the extra junk round other players name mean.

    I highly doubt anything like this would ever happen, but if it ever did I would be the first person to make sure an option to disable it was added b/c I personally think it's a waste of time and wouldn't want it on my screen.

    That's noones fault but their own. People that are worth anything are willing to learn and actually read. Also snippy remarks made to new players isn't a good way to treat noobs. I try to take my time and explain to people what's what. I know it can be upsetting when people are idiots. A good amount of people in this world are idiots but that doesn't stop me from trying. Knowing when to take a break is very important. I'm sure there are plenty of people are tired of incompetence. Take a break. Realize it's a game and don't allow other people to change your mood. It's hard at times but sometimes taking a break or letting it roll off your back is better. ;)

    I know I've had to hit alt+F4 plenty of times because someone had gotten under my skin.
    I'm the type that requires all information before I act. I know everyone isn't like that.

    This isn't an aim at anyone. Defiantly not you saint. I love you. :) the part about having success with people sparked this. I've been dealing with similar situations at work. So it's fresh in my mind I felt like sharring.

    Edit/ also my 999th post. I've waited weeks for the right time or reason for the few last posts. ;)

    I like this a lot, the question i have is, how are the stars that cannot be automatically awarded be given, by a staff member I assume?

    If stars that cannot be automatically given out are given by staff, I think there is a room for being biased in there. Since, someone who is in the town/kingdom (stephork for example) can get the star easier that someone like me, who does not regularly talk to staff. I think that there is a way things could get biased there, and there would need to be strict guidelines to receive the star, otherwise it could be unfair.

    Other than that, I think this is a pretty neat idea for the server, and it would further make ImDeity more unique than the rest. This would probably be (fairly) easy to implement as well.

    There are three reasons that I want this to happen, I think its a cool idea, I like stars, and because versh doesn't like it.

    Maybe there will be an option to be able to disable it for your screen. Like /togglestars or something like that. Just a suggestion.

    it is a great idea, especially if you want to show off your stats for stuff like deity war, but it might flood the screen too much when there are alot of people in an area.
    Example: when Deity war or spleef is going on, alot of people would there and our computer screens would be full of stars. and for slow computers (like mine), it may lag the server.

    I find it so sad that there is always at least one staff member that has to blow a suggestion that is reasonable out of the water. I do recall seeing you Vershye once saying some along the lines of "I hate seeing all of these posts for things wrong about the server, post suggestions if you actually want to help". Well here you go Vershye, here is a suggestion and a damn well good one. If you ranked all suggestions on this forum, this would probably stand in at #1. Why? Because it is well thought out, organized and unlike most, is a neat and custom thing that no other server has. But because you think it's a burden to see a few stars on your screen, you have to go on a limb and say it will most likely never be made. This goes back to your statement asking people to suggest things instead of criticizing them. With that last post, you are now a hypocrite.

    Really cool idea Barry :)
    First, it would add something unique to the server, and also give some sort of huge "quest" to complete seeking for more stars, and this would be good for competition (in the fair way, of course).
    Second, it would be pretty cool to see, but having them always showing, may bug some people, so a /togglestars command, as suggested above, would be very useful, or also make it so that it show the stars when your in the direction of the object (like named mobs show their names only when the pointer can reach them).
    Third, original idea, cool looking, and it would make more people talk and socialize :) Of course noob will be noobs, but we already have them, so nothing changes for them ;)

    What is highlighted in red is your relative opinion, not a factual statement. My inclusion of this will hopefully become clear.

    As for the quote of Vershye you have, he is not being hypocritical, he is pointing out a legitimate concern for staff and players, maybe more so for staff. Something that many non-moderators seem to forget is that the vast majority of staff are normal players who have been trusted to make sure everyone else follows the rules. Something many players tend to also forget is that if you have a problem with a moderator, you take it to Gwen or up if it is Gwen herself. Vershye is expressing his opinion as a player. Whenever you see "mod" attached to someone, it really only means that they are enforcing the rules. I know you are a very nice person, and you wouldn't deny someone their opinion, now would you?

    So here goes:

    Barry, it is a decent idea, though I have spoken with some of the other staff. This really just seems like an easter egg hunt. It's a challenge to get as many stars as you can, and it will be good for bragging rights, for a little while. Eventually it will turn into just a bunch of colored dots over people's heads that a much smaller population of the server will genuinely be interested in. The reason people will lose interest is because after the initial rush, many players will be halted in their advance in getting more stars. Either they hit the max level, or things just aren't ready for the next level, or they hit their personal max level. They get to brag a bit with their friends, some other people with all the stars possible will brag in chat, and people will just stop caring. It's not like it is a badge that people are wearing, or personal heraldry, it's supposed to act as a help tool with a couple extra accolades. This suggestion may require an extra plugin or two that will have to be edited to work with the server, as well as a custom code by Deity to enable this. It will likely require maintenance, and just adds to the amount of code he has in the server. It is not an essential game mechanic, and a little superfluous. Naturally, Deity will be the deciding factor. In my honest opinion, I doubt he will go for it. Even if he does like it and decide to do it, its very nature may put it close to the bottom of the ever shifting priority list. I appreciate the effort you put into it, but I wouldn't hold my breath over it.

    No sense in saying what you would do (in a negative manner) if it were to actually be implemented. Rather, if I may suggest so, you should instead come up with another idea. Such as they would come up when you do /res info so it does not show up in chat, not to have a disable option. No work should go to waste just because you find one flaw in it. Fix the flaw.

    I think it's a good idea, a way to show experience.

    I'm stating what I wouldn't do b/c it's how quite a few new players would see it. Useless clutter.
    Deity is developing the stats page on the forums for just this reason, so people have a place to show off their accomplishments. I don't see a need for something in game that is just going to cause more problems with new players.

    Also, I'm assuming that dodger is just an alt forum account for someone that can't state their opinion on their real account.
