Goodbye, Ciao, Adios, Hasta la vista... baby

Hello All,

Unfortunately it is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to all of you.
It would appear my time on ImDeity has come to an end, i'll miss each and every one of you... well... some much more than others...
You've all shown me great friendship over the last year, and i've had experiences with all of you that I shall never forget.
Some of the newer players reading this will probably have no idea who I am, that's fine, I regret that I did not get to know all of you as well as I know some of the older players here.

Where can I begin...

Well first I guess a huge goodbye to all of my loyal subjects in Anvil is much needed. You have all been the best residents a mayor could wish for and I honestly can't have hoped to have had more fun on a minecraft server than I have with all of you. I may be going but the town is still strong, stay with it and keep up the hard work and I can promise you it'll all pay off.

Also a huge thank you to the guys in buenavista pre reset, without you guys i'd never have founded Anvil, I even doubt that i'd have played on the server for much over a month without the kindness you guys showed me at the start.

Well its sad to see that you're leaving. I was hoping to get some more diamonds from you. XD But really, you were a pretty cool and creative guy to be around. Wether its the creation of Anvil twice, or the idea of you just being who you are. I wish you luck in your future and great happiness. ~Speedy

 

Consider this our history's recap and my message to a very good and old friend.


I remember the first few days that you were on the server, a long time ago now. From day 1 you demonstrated maturity, willpower and discipline in our old and magnificent BV. I was proud every single time that a player who I tended to as an assistant would shine out and become a good and active player. With you, it was different. Not only were you active, but you were a leader. That is extremely important. You showed us that you were capable of handling situations on your own when no assistant was there to help. You took care of your district's problems, and there were many. This is extremely important and also quite rare. You had all of the qualities that are asked for in an assistant, a head assistant or even a Mayor. I remember discussing your situation with WhyteKnight, both of us were very fond of you and we could possibly see you as an assistant in the nearby future. You had everything needed to become one of the town's best assistants.

Later within that map, our Mayor and his brother went MIA and our staff went nuts about our town's leadership status. People started fighting on teamspeak and on forums, our mayor did regrettable things to us and the residents to which some of us (myself included) responded in kind (which we later regretted). During that time, I remember talking to you about a future dismantlement of the greatest town the server had ever seen. We knew that if things went wrong, it would impact the server as well. There were sad times.

After the BV clash and destruction, you started Anvil. During that time, I followed Derekj54 and started Cynosure. I started scheming to overthrow BV's leadership from the outside as I still hoped that Whyte or Derek could become mayor of BV, what we had talked about. I talked to you the very day that I took action. I remember you telling me that you regretted our good old days in BV, that you sometimes wished we could all reunite under the same banner one day. This added fuel to the fire. I acted swift, exposing our old leaders. Promptly after, I was banned for my actions but was then swiftly unbanned after long discussions with the staff. That is when we lost touch. I stopped playing on this server. I had lost hope. I played with Valdemarian somewhere else, while you made glory happen. I remember visiting you now and then, amazed at what you were doing. You were one of the only players in a short list that I actually really cared about on the server. But coming back was too hard. Even when I later heard that BV's heads were banned, I still could not come back and play on ImDeity. I severely regret this. We could have had many more fun times during that period, alas I was physically unable to play on the server for more than a few minutes without feeling remorse and guilt. I wish it were not so.

During all of that time, you became what you were always set out to be. A leader.
I do not know Mine_Rat, but I can tell you that he must have been overjoyed to have such an amazing player at his side. What you did in Anvil, the growth that you generated, it took a team of 20 active players and months of planning for us to do in BV. Many people would now say 'what if he was duping at that time to create that city?' I can tell you, that making a city is not about the money. Money is nothing on ImDeity, this is a severe misconception. Perhaps half of the players have cheated at some point, by voting for others, duping or in any way. Some people get caught, others do not. Making a successful town is about willpower, patience and perfection. Not about money or items.

Although I cannot condone your actions, as I am a fervent believer in Deity's law, it does not taint your image to my eyes. No one here, on ImDeity, can look back on their lives and claim that they have never made mistakes. We all have. No one is perfect. I believe and always will, that you did what you did for the good of your town. I can understand that. As I have tried to point out to the staff hundreds of times, if you leave players the possibility of duping, many will. It has nothing to do with you as a person. The fact that duping is possible on the server means that perfect players will sometimes get tempted by the possibilities of it. Many are now gone that made the server what it was. As much as I endure in my respect for Deity's ways, I believe that cheating is simply an anomaly of the human behavior. We cheat because we can, and because we are genetically programmed to be competitive and to try to get any advantage that we can over others. I have always been against the retro-active procedure in terms of some of the server's ways to catch cheaters. Look at the Honey pot and now the Honey house: They are there, baiting you, taunting you to try. You do not do it because it will get you anything, but because can. The same exact thing can be said about duping. I believe that we, on the server, should be pro-active. There should be people on the staff searching and warning of how duping works and of how it can be stopped. Sometimes, like the anvil duping, it can be as easy as simply removing anvils from the game until they are re-worked or the problem is fixed.

I digress. I do not wish to place 100% of the blame on the staff though, and i am sure that you know what I mean. Duping is still duping. It could and should have been avoided. I simply wish that I, or someone, could have been there to talk to you about this sooner. Few cheaters get caught on the server, but when they do, they are made an example of. The problem with Anvil, is that a vast amount of people started cheating. When this happens (Like Valdemarian's ban wave) it is obvious, and players start wondering where some resources that are rare or hard to obtain are flooding in from. The problem with going mass-scale like Anvil did, is that players tell other players what they are doing, either by desire to show off, or just by believing that the people they talk to will keep the secret. I am sure that there are dozens of players that dupe, and have duped for a long time, but they keep it on the down low. The odds of you being the first one to dupe in your town are low, and knowing you, I believe that you were not the first one to do so. What I would simply wish you had done is left the town. I know that you forged Anvil out of your bare hands, and I know how much work you put into it. (From what I heard it was mostly you doing the hard work pre-reset). I just wish that you had bailed when things went sour, but some part of me understands you not leaving. I do not know what I would have done in your stead, and therefore I believe that I cannot judge your for your actions. This is something that I wish people would remember. Many are quick on judging others in cases where they themselves would perhaps have committed the same mistakes.


On this note, I would like to end my spouting, it is now 5AM and I have been trying to write this freaking thing for hours without letting too much emotion out.
BTF, you are a great human being. ImDeity is nothing, this is just a game. You have the mental potential to become an amazing person. I can tell you right now, that of the hundreds of people that I have overseen in BV, you were the one. The one that demonstrated everything that I wanted, as both a player and a person. You were perfect in every way as a resident, and later you showed the community that you had what it takes to become a Mayor (yes I consider you as Anvil's creator, to hell with what others may think of this). You are made from something that few on this server are, be it players or staff members. You may have duped, but you are still trustworthy. You may have wished for more and used the wrong ways to obtain just that, but you are still mature. The guilt that you feel is nothing. That feeling in your stomach when you will recall the good memories on the server is nothing. You are more than this, you are stronger than it. I wish that we had hundreds of players like you on the server.

BTF, I can only say that I am proud to have been there when you started on the server. I was proud when I saw that your dreams took off and you created one of the biggest and most powerful towns that the server will ever see. I am happy to have played this game by your side and to have enjoyed the times that we had. I believe that you will be are a great man BTF, and I am truly honored to have shared a moment of your life with you.



This is not a farewell my friend, but a simple 'au-revoir' until we meet again.

well btf. much like frenchy i am going to use this time to share my memories.

much like frenchy said the times in bv pre reset were amazing. yeah things went south, but you put your best foot forward, and although i didnt personally know the co creators of anvil as well as you did. i still put much of anvils successes down to your leadership and magnetism that draws people to you. and general people skills which i am lacking these days (mainly through boredom)

but frenchy was right. in buena i got raised to an assistant. and i might of been hard on you at times, but that was only because i wanted to be the head british guy and you were clearly a threat my position lol. but seriously as you know i have always had a deepest respect for you, i realised you had flair with building. but mainly building relations with people, and when anvil popped up i was amazed to see how well it did. again through our own dealings i knew you were making the city hum.
and together from my seat in old bv i always traded with you and we always saw each other as fond allies.
but buena was without leaders and the time had come to spread my own wings.
i lacked the energy you had when it came to getting people on board projects so i took my few friends and started crystalguard, unfortunately the map reset cut that town short. but i decided to make a new one regardless on the new map. figuring this time i would have longer.

and all throughout the last 3-4 months i have never had any problem with anvil, and i miss when we dont talk for a while, you never have "dead air" you always have something interesting to say. im glad to say i have earnt your respect enough that we exchanged phone numbers, i was pleased when we used this for organising pvp raids etc.
and to be honest i would love for us to join up once a week for a pvp showdown on a server somewhere.

so that was us, before we became close, i always liked your building style, even if it didnt seem like it, i liked that you did things differently to me, this opened up my eyes to a lot of new ways, rather than being stuck in one style or one way, you helped keep me a versatile builder purely on inspiration because you did things that i wouldnt think of.

and here comes the fun part.

i will never forget for as long as i live playing on supreme pvp with you and llama and rogue and casey, and loads more.
not only that but our faction was pretty amazing. i have never had so much fun sitting in a room by myself brewing all kinds of wondrous potions to assist our clan on the battlefield. and when i wasnt brewing potions? we were off powning other factions. and i learnt some great pvp methods etc. our base was super tight.
and i never wanted for any materials they were always supplied.
so i was proud to be your alchemist.

even after we stopped playing factions together when i received word to muster the rohirim i was so excited. but for some reason we never actually got on our horses on that one lol. we must do factions again real soon!

so to summarise btf my english brother from another mother. we have had some great times. you are gone but not forgotten (on this server), and i know one day you will return from this even wiser and stronger and your friends that remain here will celebrate in the streets to hail your return.

so heres to the next raid my friend. dont ever change ya phone number without sending me a text to let me know. because if your on factions my place has always been and will always be at your side protecting your right flank.

heres to the past the present and the future. one of my greatest friends. even when i was being a ******bag.

btf you made the game more fun than i ever knew, thanks for everything.

Hey BTF I am sadden that you can not be on as our leader you are the best. You and Mine_rat have taught me well and you both are already missed.

I remember when the reset happen and I had no town to go to and was not sure where to go, I hid a chest outside of Anvil not knowing that that was against the rules. when I was told about it being against the rules, You could of been mad, but instead, You offered me a home. At that point I knew Anvil was for me, I Thank You for your kindness and forgiveness of my mistake. I wish the server could do the same for you.

Then as time went on we became friends and I was promoted to assist by you side we have worked more hours than I can count and just because you will not be by our side to help guide us, know that your dream will live on. We will do our best to run Anvil the way you intended it to be "The best town it can be."

I and many others are better off for knowing you and it has been great up to this point. So no goodbye just happy memories. Who know when? but, I am sure our paths will cross again.

 

It is sad to see another veteran go, however, the terms on which this happens are ofcourse enough of a justification. Goodluck with where ever you are going nevertheless.

I hope everyone that reads this tread realise , that , "cutting corners " goes to your head , it almost feels like those damn morals you see movies , lol like great power comes great responcibility .

And to cut some of the rumors Anvil was not built by any of these duplicated items ,
We had just discovered how to do it , 2 weeks ago , and (take this as a warning) we got caught in no time and technicly lost everything, its almost like a drug dealers life ...its all good when it last then the cops get you...and they take Everything .

The other resisdents of anvil had nothing. To do with it at all, they like some of you were hearing rhumors .
Anvil remains a great place to be and a great community to work with , and now its hacker free!

Im sorry to all and to the server , I will miss this community it was almost a addiction for me i would be on every night after work, and I will miss greatly the ones who were to closes

 

I can't thank all of you enough for the kind words, i'm not going to lie guys, I started to well up a little bit reading some of them, I guess the least I owe you all is an honest explanation of what happened and a nice story of my time here.

In ImDeity, as in life, we all partake in activities that we one day grow to regret, wether it's as simple as joining a town we grow to hate, taking a joke too far in chat or something far more sinister.
For me unfortunately an activity recently took my fancy, Facilitating Duplication, now I can't stress this enough to you, this is only a recent occurrence and has never happened before in Anvil. I know that many people will have already judge me for this and that my image is tarnished to some now, You're probably wondering what I mean by "Facilitating". I never personally took part in the duplication, I was however aware that it was happening and I chose to say nothing to the server staff, this is in its self a more than fair reason to have banned me, to make matters worse I put in requests for specific materials, I was officially a part of this crime, something I now regret.

In this activity, I can't stress this enough, the individuals involved were few in number (and have been punished) no current Anvil residents/staff who are currently not banned knew about what was happening, nor did they benefit from this. My original plan when I started to request items was that if I could gather materials for Anvil that we would otherwise have had to purchase, simple things such as A stack of diamond here and there, then I could cut taxes to my residents to nothing, my people could enjoy a higher standard of living, we'd have the money to survive any economy crisis without having to tax people.

But when you know that materials can be conjured out of thin air it's difficult to request only 1 stack of diamond. After a few days of the glitch being present I realised (whilst working on some science work) every action has an equal and opposite reaction, for every Dei my town COULD earn (could is in huge letters as very little of the boost that our bank received in the latter days actually came from this glitch, the bank went from 50k to 100-150k in about a month, now I know that you'll all assume that was due to duping, i'm not saying that none of it was, I had just donated $100 to the server to get 35k, Kurbstomp won the lottery and gave 10-15k to the town, Mine_Rat gave 30k to the town, etc...) a dei leaves some honest players' pocket, and for every item that is created the economy suffers just that little bit, glowstone sank from 50 to 25 a piece (DON'T WORRY GLOWSTONE IS CONSUMABLE, THE PRICE WILL GO BACK UP).

The minute I made this conclusion I began to contact known dupers telling them to either stop duping or to stop undercutting the prices of other players in the mall as this was driving the prices of such items down, It was to no avail, they continued to undercut. Not long after this an assistant of my town found out, Anvil staff are honest people and, with the town, and server, interests in his/her heart, the assistant informed the server staff of the issue. I do not hold this against the assistant, in-fact i'd congratulate them if I could, they single handedly saved my town. Whilst I can not make up for these actions I am giving the server my full co-operation in the investigation that is currently underway. I do not aim for this to get me unbanned, I only aim for this to help fix the damages I have made and the damages that have been made under my responsibility.

I apologise to all those who have been wronged, I will help to fix this.

My Story :-

This part happened well over a year ago... despite me having only been a site member for a year.

I was living in the wild in a mountain that I had mined a hall into, with large bedrooms and such, I lived there with my friend Henry, unfortunately I cant locate the thread in which I sold this, but after living in the mountain for a good month baking cakes all day every day I could finally afford a house in a town. Now one thing you need to understand is that the server has changed a lot since then, at the moment if someone types "how do i join a town" or if someone completes the starter quest all you see in chat is;

SpammyMcMacroUser: Join (random town) right now man! it's the shizniz! we'll give you free plots (not that all towns do this)! and we'll charge you lots of taxingz! just so our mayor can own over 50% of the servers money!
or
Certain individuals stealing my amazing line: Hey (newbies name) I just met you! and this is Craaaazy! But here's my townlink... (townlink) So join it maybe! <--- yeah that's my line... mine!

Whereas back then if you asked to join a town you got no reply, not due to the server being inactive, but due to towns being packed as it was, the server was (During low times) 100+ people at any given time, so after a while of nagging a player (who's name began with R, I wanna say Roug something) contacted me and took me to buenavista, I felt at home, there was a store near spawn, natural landscape as far as the eye could see, and Frenchy flying around with his magic carpet (Yes people... it used to be a magic carpet not a fly command) giving out diamond tools to some of us noobies, and fuzzy baby stealing elmo's (elmotookmybaby) and many others, I got settled in over in the yellow district, I tended to the farms on a daily basis and I lived out by the water for a while. After a while my house was built, and it looked horrendous, I was a typical noob, not moving out of my comfort zone (the cobble of the mountains I had once called home). This wasn't enough for me, so elmo and I formed the very imaginatively names "BTF & Elmo Farm" we went a couple of hundred blocks from the town and built a huge barn, and inside of this barn (on multiple floors) we bred sheep, hundreds of fluffy white sheep and yes... sheep did stay!. But still a couple of stacks of wool per harvest was nice but the walk was effort. And so, with elmo's savings we purchased a quad plot and moved the farm there. It was great, 4 plots away from my house, straight over the street from elmo's, it could not have been placed any better.
Over the next few days our livestock was frequently being stolen, in anger we prowled the town day and night, until we heard the faintest little "Baaah", immediately we called for frenchy to open up the property, and to our amazement almost a hundred sheep poured out, we had found our livestock, the owner of the house admitted to the theft and was kicked.

 

Time passed like this for weeks, we had huge snowball fights, I got my first construction job aiding a few players in the construction of a large skyscraper in BV, and then came some horrible news... the server was to undergo a reset... this was never a good thing, people panicked and spent weeks making bookshelves (a safe way to mass transport books) only to find that there was a specific list of items which you could carry over... and bookshelves were not on there...
But none the less we continued to gather what materials we could, every player able to transfer a single inventory of specific items over, those of us with spare space were to help the assistants carry town supplies over.

On the day of the reset we all logged in and found the site of new BV, I immediately began digging for the mayor, a huge circular pit that had been planned, it took ages!. But after a while the town was taking shape, the hotels were being built and white district was up, I moved into white district (which I later found was known as noob district) and built a relatively nice house, in the middle of what looked like war torn Afghanistan (there were holes everywhere, boarded up houses, etc...) and not far across from me lived a certain HeinzGruber, when I met him I thought... "what a jerk " but heinz and I became the best of friends over the time that we've known each other. I couldn't live in this terrible area for long. I saved up and bought two plots in newpork district, where I built my iconic blackwool roofed farm house. It looked nice (even by my current standards). And over time I convinced a friend of mine (DarkestKenny) to join the server, immediately I gave him a room in my house and some armour and together we mined... and mined... and mined... (oh yeah you had to earn money back then) and eventually bought him two plots opposite me, where he built a variation on my house, similar design but stone brick not brick. Our street had gone from a barren wasteland to a beautiful community, worth far more than when it started. And we then both began working on convincing a friend of ours (BassettGoesPro) to join and we got him a double plot next door to me, he built a beautiful house with a large garden and a water feature. Across the street from him there were some plots for sale, and some kid moved into them, at the time this kid was very annoying, his name was Kurbstomp13, we used to hide in our houses so that he wouldn't bug us, but after a while we got to know him and to this day he has proved to be one of my most valuable friends. I love you kurb .

The 3 of us (myself, bassett, and kenny) were tasked with building houses in the hotel district which would be rented to players. We built these but not to the land as barry would have liked, this resulted in a rather long lecture on why we build with the land and why I should not have built the roads there. Agreeably so, We received pay for the work we had done and then returned to our houses to live as normal residents. Weeks passed and we found structure under the water, An old structure dating back to before Buenavista, it was an ancient hall, with bedrooms, farms, a blacksmith, huge open halls, waterfalls, it was truly amazing to behold. Myself, Heinz, Charliebean, bassett and kenny renovated it into a huge base underground where we took refuge for a while.
