This is, I know, a very random question. I have a habit of being a bit OCD as far as my in-game organization, even in the inventory that I carry with me; everything has its place. I thought this would be an interesting discussion. So here's my question for you: How do you organize your items in Minecraft?

Personally, I have my chests grouped by category. Within each category, I have multiple chests of similar items. Categories are things like Building materials (doors, glass panes, etc), organic (cactus, sugar cane, bone meal, etc), blocks, misc valuables, tools, parts and pieces, emergency equipment and food. Then, if I have enough blocks to warrant their own double chest, they get one, within the section that they came from. So, for example, I have a double chest full of smooth stone that goes in between my blocks and building materials section, since I have a building going that requires alot of it.

So how do you organize your items in Minecraft?

I pretty much use a very similar method to you. I also use a categorical method but also with some items having their own chest depending on how easy it is to acquire said item(e.g. Cobble, which has it's own chests). Other chests I have include food, farming items(not tools but seeds & saplings, etc), weapons, armor, wood of various types, ores/blocks, and a chest of random things. I don't really have my chests organized into sections but I can imagine once I gather more things I will have to have everything organized into sections. I also have a specific place in my inventory for each thing I carry with me and now all of this talk is making me wonder if I am OCD or just extremely organized, lol.

I use InvTweaks. Chest storage can be arranged alphabetically, or in rows or columns. Then I put certain materials in a section of storage, so it's easy to find.

I like to organize each chest, (Rare items, enchantments, food, lapis, etc...) so it has a purpose. I also put the most important blocks And items near the bottom, so it's easier to find. I don't know if I'm developping OCD, but there are a lot of things in real life that would suggest so.

Currently I organize based on use and rarity. I find this system works best since my more valuable and useful items end up in a 1-2 chests while the cobble, dirt, and common crap ends up in the dump chests to the side.

I'm just a complete mess with my chests. I put stuff where ever I see space lol. But I recently got one of my favorite mods back, convient inventory, and it sorts out my random chests. :)

Mine are organized by what they are used for. Any type of block is stored in a block chest. Things ive created go into a "pre-made" chest or crafted chest. Food items such as seeds, melons, wheat, bread etc go into a food chest. Swords, armor, and tools go into another. I also put more valuable items such as Diamond tools / armor into their own chest so i can quickly get the them when i need them. I usually stack them triple high and label them with signs so i know which chest has which item in it.

    Sugar Cane/Bamboo
    (Food or Book making?)

    Lapis Ore chunks
    (Block building or Wool dying?)

I am very, very, very picky about how my chests are laid out. I carved an underground room underneath my abode in Altinum, and it took my days to sort my three walls of chests. I live with a friend to share the costs of plots and I swear if he doesn't follow the ordering -which I have labelled with signs- I will eat him, then put his organs in alphabetised chests.

I usually sort out my items based on use. I have one group of chests for building materials, one for agricultural use (seeds and saplings), one for food, another for monster drops. Of course for building materials I do tend to seperate the wood blocks, stone brick, and etc.

I have chests for different kind of items,

Such as wooden planks, wooden logs, both go in a different chest.
If I don't have 6 stacks of an item or more, I will just dump it one of the random chests I have around;p...
