Goodbye ImDeity

With great regret I announce that I quit Imdeity. I will be dropping in the server from time to time to check on the server but will not be playing it regularly anymore.

Let me first apologize for the bad spelling below. English is not my native language and I do not use it regularly besides when I am on Minecraft.

For the ppl that didn’t knew me, i shall provide a quick overview of my history on imdeity.

Around the beginning of October 2011 I came across Minecraft and after reading allot of info about it I decided to give it a try. I purchased the (at that time) 15 euro package and started playing single player. The gameplay was in my opinion genius and started to read more about the multiplayer features. I started a multiplayer server on my own pc to learn about the differences between multiplayer and singleplayer. After some searching I decided Imdeity would fit my play style and I would sign up for that server and join it.

I joined the server on Saturday 22nd of October 2011. After I joined it (I did some guides reading beforehand) I requested to join the town Vienna. That was the town named on different spots on the website as the place to be. On my 2nd day of playing I actually was able to join Vienna.

The play style the server had, the community, I liked everything. Because I was used to be helpful in other games and irl, I spend allot of time helping town members with stuff and doing town projects. I collected many materials and auctioned allot of it so that I made around 30k of Dei in a matter of weeks. I spend most of that money to buy bigger plots in the town Vienna.

Then the announcement of the server reset had been send out. We all prepared with the little info we had on the reset and I was very happy with the reset as it means a clean slate and everyone has the same chances. Kiddiewish noticed I was very helpful and knew about my request to be promoted to assistant and talked with me about his plans to start a town after the reset with me and a few friends. This, because there were no concrete plans of the leader back then, Rumoshi, for what to do after the reset. I started a build server and KiddieWish and I planned some buildings on there for more than a month. From the start till the actual reset ppl where being added to the assistant list of the town-to-be-made and we did some serious planning.

On the night of the reset we had everything planned out. We had a list of biomes we were searching for, a general idea of the town layout with districts, assistant list and a spawn building. We had everything so well planned out that we would have been the first town on the server after the reset if the donation money would have been given out in that night. It toke a few days for the money to be delivered and by then we had already started clearing a whole mountain and planning the town layout. After the money on my account finally came in we started the town of Venice.

The town expanded rapidly on size. KiddieWish was clear he wanted only friends to join and keep the town low on amount of members. This to increase the community feeling.

The town has been growing ever since and was in my opinion the best town of the server. At one time, we had most moderators in this town, more than any other town combined. VanZeben joined the TeamSpeak chat daily and I personally had the best time of my life as I felt we were all one big family.

There was only a little annoyance at that time that I did not had all the functions I had before the reset and as time was passing, more and more plugins where being disabled to “fix” them. Allot of new features where being released but also these required allot of “fixing”. I know that scripting can take a long, as I also script stuff myself, so I was perfectly fine with it taking some time.

Then the first cracks appeared within the relationships within the town. Ppl where getting annoyed by each other. I’ve spend much time talking with ppl to ease the situations. That helped for some degree. Then at one point, KiddieWish promoted vershye as mayor. That was personally a bit of a sting. I expected by the history and planning kiddie and I did and the amount of money/effort I spend that I was the next in line. After some thinking I came to the conclusion that I was rather “new” to the server compared to others and that this was why I was not chosen. I went on with doing my stuff and got promoted as head assistant by vershye and kiddie, 3th on the town management list and that was a location that was also fine with me.

More cracks appeared in the relationships within the town what resulted in many assistant and players leaving the town. This resulted in the community I was used to, to split up. The way I hang out with those ppl changed and we were not doing stuff together anymore what I still regret.

At one moment, KiddieWish got back town mayorship, then left the town and gave mayorship to Qazzsparkles who had joined the town only a few weeks before. That enraged not only me but allot of other ppl and left me with allot of mood fixing, myself and others. Vershye got mayorship back and he has had it ever since.

The mood kept dropping until one point where we as a town decided things had to change. We had to go in a new direction or the town would be doomed. We changed a few policy’s and that improved things a little but it still was going downwards.

Do not get me wrong. I am still friends with everyone named and who still is in the town or who left, but still it had some effect on me. You cannot expect anything else.

Then there was a point when I was thinking what can I do to make this game more fun again. After some thinking I decided I would give applying for moderator a shot. I have not been that lucky to be promoted yet.

Then a few weeks back some real live issues came up that limited my time online and was doing terrible things to my mood. It made me question if I want to play anymore or just quit playing games altogether as my mood was a bit unstable.

I’ve spend the past couple of weeks figuring out what I want to do with my free time and made a hard decision. The decision I based on the following facts:

I do not like the fact that 6 months have passed since the reset and most, in my opinion game changing, plugins are not fixed yet. The guys/girls that have been here before the reset know what I mean. New buggy plugins are being released regularly but the basic, in my opinion, important plugins are being left disabled. The whole community feel has been removed to in my opinion by removing nations. The server went a direction that is more focused on the individual.

At the start of the new map a border has been made of 1500 blocks with in mind that a new spawn city and a few villages could be build there for a brand new quest line. 6 months later and we have only a video of a not nearly ready spawn city, let alone the villages and new quest line.

A little time ago Imdeity also released the pvp world. This made the community even scatter out more. Ppl are investing time in the pvp world building towns and investing time in the normal world resulting in less time playing together.

I know Imdeity wants to build a server where you can find something for every kind of player, but this has done something with the general community that is not to my liking. I am someone that prefers games which have community’s and where you do things together. After i really thought about It I think my play style fits a smaller server more than this one. The direction this server is heading is focused on adding more and more content on more and more servers scattering the server even more and more.

So there has to be a time where I should say STOP, this is enough and that time has come. I can go on playing it till I hate the server but I don’t want to let it go that far. The server has not been as enjoyable as before and when I come online I spend most of my time talking with ppl and hear who had a fight with who and which relationship I have to fix next.

I started to write down what I like to do and what I don’t and based on that I decided I am going to spend time in creating my own small server. This has been in my head for a long time and I have started on planning this a few times already but I was not able to combine it with my time I spend on Imdeity. I didn’t wanted to let my friends/townmembers down and prioritized Imdeity over my other projects.

So here we are now with me finally saying goodbye. I do not like saying goodbye but this is something I have to do. I will drop in from time to time to see what imdeity has become but will not play regularly anymore. This may come to a shock to allot of ppl but I hope most can understand.

I'll miss you elwinh, I truly will.
I remember you in Vienna, always helping out, trying your best in town chat. You were a great neighbor to some, and a better friend to others. Always trying to do your best, help out or just have fun with your friends, you were always there for us. After the reset, in Venice you were just as great. Have fun elwinh.

I sadly have to agree with you, though my experiences haven't been so pleasant nor so bitter. Deity may not realize it, but I think he's killing the server. Maybe I'm just crazy, but I remember the times of 300 players. I hated those times. Overpopulation and everything, pain in the butt, but it showed the server WAS doing good. If I had a choice, I'd turn the nob all the way back to 2010 or 11, I can't remember. When ImDeity was just starting out. Deity and Vv on every day, wanting to play, wanting to help EVERYONE they could. That Deity was fun and you were always able to reach him. Vv left, I feel like THAT is even a clear sign! I'm not liked on this server, so you can say my opinion doesn't count, but there is a decline in players and this server is going to hell. I've been trying to quit, but to no avail. The only reason I come back to ImDeity is because I know people here, not because it's fun. I'd like to join you on your server, if you would let me join. Fix the server, Deity, clearly something has gone wrong :c. Best of luck to you and the server Deity.

Sorry for "tainting" the thread with my own story, by the way. I was going to say a simple "I agree" and then got carried away with my own revelation.

 

It's sad to see you leave Elwin, but I can understand why you are leaving. I hope everything goes well for you, and hope you drop in often. You were truly one of the best town assistants I have ever met.

 

I don't know you that well, but from stories from other people, you were a great player. Hope you have nice time away.

Elwinh, I was always respecting you since you recruited me to the town, and now you pushed yourself even further. You said exactly the same things that I had on my mind but I never convinced myself to speak out. I think that there's no way back, so I will be completely honest this time.

I joined the server 10 days after the reset, I was looking for building/towny server that has a great community and seemed to have found it. During my first day here, I browsed through all of the towns. Venice, at that point, looked original, skilled, friendly and really hard to join. I put some effort in impressing the assistants and getting an invite. The next months I worked hard in multiple districts and got promoted to assistant.

During my stay in the town I was a witness of huge mistakes. No offense to you Kiddie, you are a nice person and it was great hanging out with you, but you made too many decisions on your own. Most of the assistants, back in January-February, did not deserve their positions and prevented others from contributing to the town. Those assistants, one of them being a mod, went inactive for weeks and robbed our town when they left. Even I don't know the whole story and I guess they have their own version of the events.

Next, Qazz and zRations, joined the town and got promoted to assistants instantly. I was a regular member of the town back in the days. Having spent hundreds of hours of helping the town up to this point, it just killed me. Note that to this day, none of them had contributed to the town as much to deserve this title.

As Elwinh pointed out, Qazz was even promoted to mayor only to leave the town in the next few days. After a brief period of instability in the town, Vershye became mayor and temporarily stopped the town from falling apart.

It may seems like I'm bashing on other players, but it's not the case. I am just pointing out that these mistakes led to the current meltdown of our town. We lost many of our best members and assistants; however it is just the beginning. I don't have anything against any of the players mentioned here. I had a great time playing with them and I have no regrets.


Putting town matter aside, I had same concerns about the server for too long, many of us did. It seems that the bigger the organization/company/community gets, the most distant the staff gets from their members. Just like in any big franchise (like WoW for example), the players cannot contact directly the administration. After gaining popularity, the staff is starting to operate on its own. They ignore the public opinion release content that the community no longer enjoys.

Back to Imdeity, in my opinion, the server is following the same pattern. Nowadays, it is extremely difficult to contact an administrator, nor they would even want to listen to you. Unless you befriend them on Teamspeak, there is no possible way to contact them. Yes, Iv'e seen Deity talk briefly to some people from time to time; yes, Iv'e seen some suggestions being implemented from time to time. It appears that this isn't enough.

As a fairly old member of the server, I have once expected Imdeity.com to be completly different than what it is today. Let's take a look what have changed since I joined on January 8th. I might be forgetting some, but this is what I have in mind.

- Updates to 1.1 and then 1.2
- Minor changes to mine world (from 50 blocks radius of protected land to 500)
- New Plot and town commands
- Creative world (still unfinished)
- Mob event (later removed)
- Enchanting (still unfinished)
- Removal of the /shop (glowstone and ink are no longer obtainable)
- New physical shop (only sell/buy gold ingots)
- Deity games
- Fixed, broken, fixed, broken and fixed again resident taxes
- PvP world (still unfinished)
- Chickens enabled, sheep die after some time
- /fly command (many still prefer /mc)
- New town chat
- New Pvp event arena
- Auctions ?

Mostly minor updates and the major ones were never completed. Here what was promised and were not fulfilled:

- The mall
- Vendor perks
- 3d plots (works by height)
- Mcmmo (lv2 and lv3)
- Nether items
- Quests
- New spawn
- Creative world ranks (more than 1 plot for higher ranked players)
- PvP factions (balanced and completed feature)


I wanted to remain as respectful and polite as I could, but let's face it, the server is dying. Many players left us, many towns fell, many mods became inactive and much hope was lost. I am not judging any staff members or regular players; I am simply stating the facts. Now, why would I spend so much time writing about this? Maybe I feel like there's nothing else to do here; maybe I am desperate enough to try to warn you to wake up; or maybe I just had to let it out. I am not sure...

I hope that being honest is not a bannable offense, I am sorry if I offended anyone here.

Goodbye Elwinh and good luck in your projects. Let me remind you that you are the best and you will succeed without any doubt.

We will all greatly miss you elwinh, even me. Though we constantly got into arguements, though we constantly bickered, I still considered you a good friend.

But there is something I would like to explain, just to clear it up. The reasoning for instantly gaining assistant, and very quickly getting mayor, is that KiddieWish was well aware that I had experince running a town, a large one at that. Vershye was not as active at the time to gain the role of mayor, and I believe that he needed a break. I may have done a piss poor job at it, but I had/have a lot of things going on as well. I honestly just wanted to clear that up, so that you don't leave here with a grudge against me for the wrong reason.

But I wish you the best of luck with all you do elwinh, and I'll miss you.
