Ah, I was thinking in plots of 10, but yeah, 12's the limit ;). I was actually thinking why we would allow regular pistons...

    Thanks for correcting me :)

I think the "risk" associated with it is from chaining them to reach past 12 blocks, but as you'd need power along the chain, it's still limited.

There would be a risk of that, but as you said, they need power, whick would mean you would have to be able to place that power on the plot you are trying to 'steal' from. So the worst you could do no matter whas is push part of a wall off by pushing it from the very edge of the plot with a 12 block loaded sand piston.

Seeing how a piston could be used just to push one block out, seeing it stretches out one block, it could've been used. But that doesn't work with 16x16 plots.

Chaining as in piston - piston - piston - target. But that needs power. But you can have piston chains each pushing up to 11 blocks across further than 12 blocks distance (1 block distance per piston in the chain)

Ah, i see what you are thinking. Yeh, if you could have somehow power on the plot itself, it would work. You cannot power it before you move the piston cause powered pistons cannot be pushed.

If you had build privs on 2 sides of a plot, you could steal from the outer edge of the plot... That's about it I think ;) (Though, you could grief a plot by shrinking the content, I guess!)

Although to be fair, Stiah already pointed out that pistons cannot push into a protected plot on a server with WorldGuard. So neither scenario is relevant in our context. (I was just being academic / pedantic about it!)

So the point of sticky pistons used to grief is still mute, as they have to "push" before they can pull. In creative I have yet to get a sticky to pull more than one block, so if you could extend one over a plot, you are limited to stealing their wall...

    Caps! ;)

Also, I believe that's already been established. I'm pretty sure the convo derailed onto whether they could ever be effectively used on 16x16 size plots where you didn't have build perms (with worldguard out of the eqation).

So in the end, if it's been proven that the sticky pistons can't grief, why are they not enabled?

When sticky pistons are allowed, they will be for higher level Craftsman and cost a bit to place.

Basically meaning, if you have to use it for griefing a block (that we can still track that a block with the logblock tool in the first place) then you sure did put a lot of effort to get to that point to grief blocks in this way.

Really, we have logblock. If someone's plot is griefed like this, we can easily see that sticky pistons were placed around the plot, and see what blocks the person that placed the pistons broke.

You need many hours on this server to level up beyond Laborer when it's available. Fly by night griefers won't be able to use them, neither will Laborers. So the griefing concerns aren't really concerns. If it ever happens, it will be a rare occurrence and we still know who used sticky pistons.
