That doesn't mean you need to double the speed. If you have a top of he range now, it'll still work completely fine in 5 years time.
Also, it's every 18 months, not two years. We're also starting to prove this theory wrong as we come to the end of the life of silicon based chips, we can no longer squeeze that much more power out of them. Next we'll have graphine chips and they'll be 1000x more powerful, also disproving the theory.

You know I love all the mac hater posts about mac's being pointless unless your doing graphic design work, and I have got to say: Yes at one point in time they were geared towards that aspect of computer use and were more focused on said components, however they have been steadily moving to a more mainstream market. You can game on a mac just as much as any windows machine. With that being said, mac still are not up to the "standards" in the gaming aspect, as most games are not developed for mac users. Developers just don't want to deal with the extra hassel of it. Also you find a lot less younger kids on macintosh's, which equates to a lot less "noobs" who cannot type and cant be bothered with semi legible typing. The reason for this is that unix system, regardless of whether its a linux distro or mac osx are much more complex then its counterpart. Windows is much more "noob friendly". Sure there are some kids who own/daddy owns a unix system, however they are at least better off then most windows users as their dads either have a shitton of money, OR their dad is "smarter" and can at least understand some of the system. Typically the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Another point that I hate seeing is that "windows is more customizable and therefor better then mac/linux. As I said earlier, linux and mac belong the unix system, both of them being extremely customizable. Windows gives users an "experience" and sure they let you customize some visual aspects of them, however their core system, you are stuck with. On unix you can customize what ever you want to, given you have the knowledge. Furthermore Linux is open-sourced and if you dont like someone about it, again given the knowhow, you can change it... You can even manipulate the kernels (how the software talks to the hardware) to do almost anything. With this you can completely optimize your machine to the operating system, in addition to making it look "pretty". Yes it may be tedious work, however if you want the simple life you can download ubuntu, debian, fedora, centOS, freeBSD, which are all different linux distributions that you can download and if you want you can use them as a base and modify them as well.... (in some not all cases). So long story short, if your lazy and want to have limited customization and a shitty user interface and pay 200$ for it plus upgrades and stuff then fine. But if you feel like "moving up" in the computer literate scale, i suggest either getting a linux distribution OR paying the 40$ that apple charges for their unix distro.....

Hey, in my opinion, if you yourself are going to be playing more games than anything else, I would stick with a PC due to the fact ALL games work on it as well as there is no HARD way to have to install them.

    On the other hand....

If you are big into editing of any sort, or writing code, Apple's work REALLY efficiently considering most of the apps made for the Apple products focus a lot on business/revenue.

If you'd like more information on either one, don't hesitate to PM me with any question. I would be glad to help you out.

This cannot be answered because Apple is a brand, but PC is a type. You should've asked like Mac or PC ; Apple or Windows.

I agree with smcallah, Apple all the way! I got my first laptop (a MacBook) on my eighth birthday, or when I was in 2nd grade. Ever since, I have been learning how to use many programs, such as Adobe Products (Photoshop, this is my favorite, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.), and movie editing programs (Final Cut, After Effects, etc.). At the age of twelve, I took a tech camp at Stanford University that taught me how to write in C++ and Java code. I am currently working on a Minecraft plugin of my own.

5 years ago I got a Mac Desktop, an iMac. I mainly use this for graphic design and video editing, due to the large screen.

2 1/2 years ago, I got a MacBook Air. I use this much more than I do with my iMac and MacBook. I mainly use it for travel and developing. As I said above, I am working on a Minecraft plugin and also an iPhone app.

In my opinion, the Mac OS is easier to get used to, and is better for things such as work, and school. However, for gaming, PC is the way to go.

I still prefer PCs because of their capability to be modified more than macs. Macs just don't work with as much.

I have a tower hooked up to my LCD with a wireless keyboard and mouse that i use as my games center and heavy lifting. PC will always win because of the customisability but when you want a laptop why not go with macs they do look very good.
