Little time have i already spent on the server, yet i like it already.
HOWEVER. the mob spawn rate is just rediculous.
clusters of 6 - 7 mobs just standing there everwhere you look, its virtually impossible to manuver around.
Please can you reduce the mob spawn rate, as everwhere is mobs, mobs, mobs and more mobs... even in day time. creepers come and blow you up because there are so many... this makes it terribly difficult to start going if all you get is your name showing up as "Has been blown up"

... do something about it.... it will be for the best!

I find it funny how it used to be the direct opposite before and how we wanted more mobs. However this is a survival server, mobs are here to make the server survival-ish...

Yes survival.. not impossible mass murder...

there is a difference between 2 to 5 mobs in one area where you look. not 6 or 8 mobs within 20 blocks of eachother back to back to back...

And no its not funny to be honest, its sheer stupidity, it can also take the fun out the game. Whats the point in playing if you spend more time dead than alive?

Hm, seems like you dont understand what survival is let me clear it up for you,

    Survival:
The state or fact of continuing to live or exist, typically in spite of an accident, ordeal, or difficult circumstances.

And the funny part is my opinion, If you don't know how to survive in minecraft and don't know how to kill mobs it's your fault not the server.

I'm sorry if you actually believe I'm "trolling"... But what I'm telling you is the truth, This is a survival server it's going to have mobs. I'm not talking to you like you're stupid that is what you assume. I'm not going to argue with you if you don't understand my points.

Tridler, mobs spawn based on where there are large populations of people. If you tend to hang around in highly populated (but not necessarily well-lit) areas, you're more likely to see mobs. Other people go MC-days at a time without seeing more than the odd skeleton hanging off a tree in the distance.

(Having said that, I think there are spawn areas where mobs tend to pop into existence in preference to other places, if the nearby population permits. Given mobs de- & respawn relatively frequently, they have less time to wander from these areas. I always find passive & aggressive mobs in the same 2-3 spots just near my house, and never in the ones immediately around or between them. Great for wool-hunting though...)

i think its a area thing as well, no other place i find is as bad as a field in front of my house where the last couple of days i would walk out and there would be 10-15 creepers/skeletons/zombies/etc in a compact area (about the size of three plots) if you find areas like this just light them up to prevent the spawns :)

Tridler, the answer Rillaith posted is spot on. I'll also add that if there are very few people on the server, the mobs have less people to spawn around. So if we always have 200 mobs active, and there are only 30 people online, you'll get an equal share of that 200 spawning near you.

There's no need to be a jerk, MG. You may not have known the whole answer, but you don't have to give someone such a hard time when they have legitimate questions.

More mobs than this spawn in vanilla single player Minecraft.

So I don't see what the problem is.

    No... they do not...

On my vannilla game i do not get swabbed my 20 mobs!

2 or 3 at the most, and if theres a monster spawner more come onces they are dead....

what i am trying to say, is when someone is trying to get off there feet in the game, it is vertually impossible if 20 mobs come and start attacking you, and what you have collected is then lost... :(

Guys, he's right. Spawning is INSANE right now. Take a look at my mob room, mob event butchered my mobs, I collect my records and ascend up on my magic carpet and I see this:

    (no mobs to the left)
    (looks to the other side)
(looks to the corner where there were few mobs)
(looks back where there were no mobs before)

When did this happen? Just awhile ago I felt this room was inadequate to spawn a sufficient number of mobs. Before it could hardly be called survival, now it's just plain rape. xD

    a few minutes later...

I'm beginning to be with you on this, tridler.

I was in /go mine a few minutes ago, looking into a shaft mine I was in. There were tons of torches in a small room. Light level of at least 7, and a Creeper *pops* right in front of me.

Wow, that's a LOT of mobs. I haven't seen anything like this, personally, and as I said, I live near a mob spawning nexus.

Are you by any chance in Buena Vista? Assuming you are, or are somewhere very similar... That's usually got several people in town, right? And it's grown pretty large? If all the caves & flat surfaces within about 120-ish blocks in each direction are lit, then there's no spawn places except your mob room, so all the mobs slated for that area have to spawn there. If there are several such areas, they're split between them. Lighting all the places around (for a LONG way - but significantly smaller than the 300-radius towns are granted) is a standard tactic for maximising spawning in mob traps (and frickin' time-consuming to do single-handedly. Uff.)

Tridler, whereabouts are you? Could something similar apply to your environs?

    ETA:
Hmm, ok, looks like my supposition is off then ... /go mine shouldn't have high concentrations of spawning mobs, except maybe in really moth-eaten areas if people have been lighting everything *and* leaving torches behind, which they very often don't.

Well im in Main world. yes with other people, but i agree with you too, but with the area being so large and were so spread out... 20 mobs where 1 person is... is just too much!

And bone i had the same problem yesterday.

I had about a 10x5 room. and it had 7 torches all around the room. NO BLACK / DARK... and we go down our shaft about 10 maby 12 blocks, go back up to our chest and find 5 mobs in that room! ther was no place for them to spawn...

its about the same in my town (if you know my town that is, no names needed) superrick was having a harsh time with the mobs in our town yesterday only with 1 or 2 people within 200 blocks of his area at the time. I'd think the reason is because of light level spawn rates was dropped. Cause I had to increase the lighting in my house cause mobs were spawning inside it again.

I love when this happens. People complain about never seeing any mobs, and this was due to the way minecraft spawns mobs. Normally minecraft will span mobs in 8, i think, chunks around the player, regardless if they are near you or not. This then cause people not to notice mobs and complain all the time about "why are there no mobs". Recently we updated to somebody elses version of bukkit which removes this 8 chunk "border" and changes it to 3ish, In addition to this mobs will despawn in non-active chunks, unlike before when they could "idle" when no one was around. This all contributes to not "more mobs" but rather, "more concentrated mobs". The limit of mobs for the server is still around 2500 total, they will just spawn closer to you now, as they should...

If you dont like fighting mobs, then i suggest you type '/creative' and go play where there are no mobs, because you guys have been getting the easy route. Now its payback time

    Huzzah! More mobs!

vanZeben, are the spiders on here modified somehow? They're much more aggressive here than they are on other servers I play on. It's as if their cooldown rate is halved or more.
