    **EDIT 05/24/2016**

The revised recipes are up! Here's a brief summary:

    Removed recipes:

    - Recipes for items/blocks that are obtainable in any other way: Coal, Lapis, Redstone, Diamond and Emerald Ores; Gold and Chainmail Armor (Zombies and Skeletons randomly spawn wearing these pieces of armor and may drop them when killed); Obsidian and Book (Flesh Bound Book).
    - Items created only for recipes that had 'two steps': e.g. Coal Blackened Diorite, Magic Wand, Rehydrated Flesh...
    - Replaced recipes: Quartz (replaced by a Quartz Ore recipe), Sea Lantern (Replaced by a recipe for Prismarine Crystals) and Boiled Egg (Replaced by Blank Spawn Egg).

    Revised Recipes:

    - Recipes that were considered too complicated (too many ingredients, difficult shapes, etc): Black Dye, Blaze Powder, Bottle O' Exp, Ghast Tear, Netherrack, Soulsand, Heads (no random results), Slimeball.
    - Overly expensive recipes: Blaze Rod, Enderstone, Prismarine Shards, Prismarine Crystals (replacing Sea Lantern's recipe) and Quartz Ore (replacing Quartz's recipe).
    - 'Recycle' and 'Random Loot' recipes: Re-balanced the results and added new items for some recipes. Enchanted pickaxes were removed from the 'Recycle Pickaxes' recipe. The minimum level to craft the 'Loot Crate' was reduced from 25 to 15. The level requirement for the 'Recycle Pickaxe' recipe was removed.

    Added Recipes:
    - Spawn Eggs: Rabbit, Bat, Chicken, Cow, Pig and Sheep eggs were added, also included a recipe for a 'Blank Spawn Egg' (replacing Boiled Egg)...and a little secret.
    - Heads: Creeper, Skeleton and Zombie heads now have each their own recipes. And Wither heads could come soon!
    - Recycle Arrows recipe: Arrows can be 'broken down' into its ingredients (Flint, Sticks and Feathers).

Some more info, interesting facts (imo) and tips:

    - All biome requirements were removed. Not really ALL, but pretty much.. *wink
    - The new Netherrack recipe uses Mycelium. Though kinda hard to find, Mycelium spreads like grass. and can be farmed
    - Sea Lanterns, though cheaper to make, are still a bit expensive, Prismarine Shards, however, are much cheaper than before and might be a viable building material now.
    - Exp Bottles are cheaper but cost Exp to craft. Spending 30 levels on this will give 28,5 levels worth of bottles on average. Not a craftsman? Bottle and sell your Exp!
    - Quartz Ore's recipe isn't much cheaper than Quartz's, but now you get the ore instead of the item, what can help if you use the right tools.. :) Fortune Pickaxes!! Use those!!

So there they are! I hope the revised recipes make some items more available and things more interesting.
Let me know of any errors or issues, here or in the guide.

    Thanks!

    **/EDIT**

It's been a bit more than a year since the introduction of our custom recipes plugin, that allows us to craft otherwise unobtainable items such as Quartz, Prismarine and Spawn Eggs.
However, some of these recipes didn't get much traction, some are too expensive, or too complicated, so I thought about revising them to solve those issues. I've asked @BarryX15 's help and together we came up with these new recipes and we'd like to know what you think of them:

    Ghast Tear:

    Blaze Rod:

    Blaze Powder:

    End Stone:

    Black Dye:

    Recycle Arrows:

    Netherrack:
    *Mycelium

    Quartz Ore:

    Soul Sand:
    *Coarse Dirt

I'm not going into detail about the reasoning behind these yet because I don't want to bias your first opinions on them.

We have more recipes to show, but it is better to do this in parts or there will be too much to talk about at once and things would get confusing.

So, would you start/keep using the recipes if they were like this?

    Cheap, huh? :)
First idea for Blaze Rod recipe used Glowstone and not Glowstone Dust. Still was about half of the price using current recipe.

I am more excited to see Netherrack/Nether Bricks as normal building material though.

Wait, I have like, stacks of magic wands waiting to be turned, would those just go back to sticks?

They will stay as Magic Wands with special lore text. You can still use them as normal sticks if this new recipe gets approved.

Only concern is that some of these recipes seem a bit cheap, other than that they're great :)

I like these. Much less complicated to explain to new players how to obtain these items too. Having to get items from multiple biomes in a huge mining world is a lot easier for me, but can be frustrating for them when looking for things which are common building materials outside the server.

edit: I also realized, if you take red sand out of recipes, it will help preserve the mesas on main. Not that I think it would stop it completely.

These are great, especially the simplification of Quartz Ore, the End Stone and the recycling of Arrows. I'm not sure if you saw, Driver, but something to think about is SharpyArcher's suggestion for a way to obtain Wither Skulls, taking into account that making an actual Wither needs to be disabled.

    Many thanks,
    Seph

Yes, I've seen that and I have set a recipe for Wither Skulls too. If Wither spawning is enabled, the recipe can be removed easily - before implementation.
    Thanks for the reminder.

    Here's part 2:

    Prismarine Shards:

    Prismarine Crystals:

    Steve/Blank Skull:

Instead of receiving a random head from the recipe above, you will always get a blank head, which will be used in individual recipes of each mob head, example:

    Skeleton Skull:

    Blank Spawn Egg:

This egg is used to craft mob spawn eggs, replacing 'Boiled Egg'. Recipes for other passive mobs' spawn eggs have been added too: Rabbits, chicken, cows, for example.

    Bottle 'o Enchanting:

This recipe costs the player 64 experience points. Being easy and cheap to craft, practically, this recipe is a way to store and possibly trade/sell Experience.
Note: This transfer of Exp isn't loss free. Due to the way exp bottles work in Minecraft (They have a random factor), on average, 30 levels spent entirely on bottle crafting will return 28,5 levels worth of bottles.

These will transfer to 1.9 when the time comes? Then we can add more later for the new 1.9 stuff that will be disabled in /main when the updates are completed.

Probably. If it stays it will still be the best way to give players access to the new unobtainable items imo, so it will probably be used for 1.9 stuff too.

I was about to send this list to Deity but I remembered that there is a little problem with it: Barry and I could not agree on a good recipe for slimeballs :l

This is my idea. Uses feathers, which are mostly useless right now, but it is not really logical and barely makes any sense.

Post here your ideas for Slimeball recipes and we might use yours instead. What I'd like to see is something not expensive, that makes sense and is easy to memorize - not more than 3 different items and using Vanilla recipes shapes, preferrably; no use of furnaces, non-stackable items or multi step recipes. Hmmm. Dry a bucket of milk in a furnace using a bottle of water as fuel so the combination of the 2 will be a sticky mess, then combine that with the green dye in a crafting table for a sticky slime ball..???

That's too much work, in my opinion. I have in mind making slime easy to craft because of slime blocks - which require a ton of slimeballs, so having a recipe with non-stackable items, such as buckets, mushroom stew or bottles, would make the crafting process long and repetitive. Also, for these revised recipes I am not using any smelting because it proved to be very buggy, and I'm avoiding two steps recipes as well, keeping things simple.

I've added that to my last post, sorry I forgot to add that before you posted.

I like the idea of just replacing the middle dye with a water flask. Would make sense and water flasks are easy to acquire. You just hold a stack of flasks in your hand and hold down right click until inventory is filled with flasks and repeat, since one block can fill infinite flasks.

Not too sure about the netherrack and soul sand. Mycelium is only found in the rarest biome, the Mushroom islands, and Soul Sand used to only require ender pearls and a few other components.

But with silk touch you can make a mycelium farm, thus driving down its value and making it easy to obtain
