I've looked at some posts that are this site, and thought "tagging would be a lot easier for this." An example is a 1 year post when you list your friends. Or a town thread when you list your staff. It's not even hard to install. I did some research and found some plugins that allow this.

Edit: forgot to add in, it just sends the person a alert and email saying "so and so tagged you in this thread.

    Edit2: http://xenforo.com/community/resources/bd-tag-me.386/

    Hey,

I like this idea.. However I don't really see a great demand for this kind of feature.
There are not many 1 year posts and what is wrong with just reading the post (possibly made by your friend, since he tagged you in it)?
Though, I might be wrong! :)

If you did some research though, could you provide us the URL's of the plugins, please? :)

This site is ran on XenForo software, so a feature like this would basically have to be requested on their site as they will have to be the ones to create/implement it. I already did the checking for you, and it has been requested, but no work has been done on whether it's being worked on or added in the future or not.

He edited link into his post and it shows a download to I believe a tag plugin for xenforo like this - http://xenforo.com/community/resources/bd-tag-me.386/

Also I have been on a different Xenforo website which was a forum for Youtubers to say in touch and they had tags.
(If need link, feel free to ask)

Ahh, thx Gawk. I only searched the official plugins, not the community submitted ones.

I think this would be a great addition. :D Especially for certain threads such as "Qazz's explicit". Instead of writing sentences of who you were with, just click the tag button. ^.^
    Ex:
    ~With thecrazyman11
I hope you get far with this one! :D

Though, if people are going to use that ^^^, Deity is gonna have way more notifications than he already has.
Does the plugin work in a way that you can turn off notifications in your notifications settings?

Ps. Not only is this a bad thing for Deity (hehe), but alert-spamming gets way easier with this too. And yeah... We don't like that :p

This already exists in a very very very simple form.

    Example:

You want a link to my account?
    The link is: http://imdeity.com/members/leviathan_ziz.1200/

You type, for example my name: Leviathan_Ziz

Now to link it, you would either type: [url="something".]Leviathan_Ziz[/url.] , without the dots.

Or: You select the text you want linked and click the connected chains in the options, 2 left of the image button.

Simply tagging someone by typing their name is not possible, nor really neccesary/wanted. You don't have to be linked to someone's account for someone to know who you are talking about, aswell as linking someone to my page doesn't tell him more about me then my name would.

Recieving alerts for it seems like a pretty useless thing, as the post most likely doesn't even concern/ is nothing new/ you read the post anyway etc etc.

    1. Its wanted, I can tell you that much. If not then it wouldn't be brought up.
    2. Its not only for others to know who you are talking about, but also so that people know you are talking about them. Maybe its for a bad reason but the other person doesn't realize. Or maybe they just want you to know. I know I like to know people are talking about me. :Dt
    3. If receiving alerts is so useless, then I guess so is receiving alerts for likes is useless as well. <-What a terrible statement right? So if you think about it, adding a tag option is just as reasonable.

To freely quote Deity on something completely unrelated, this could just be the demands, rants and what not of a minority part of the players.

You are basicly suggesting that when you type someones name he/she knows you are talking about him/her, is it not up to yourself if they should know? Would it not be easy to simply misspel their name so they won't get an alert?

It's sometimes nice to know you are liked, so it can be to know that you are the subject of one's conversations, tough again, if people just intentionally misspel your name, so you won't find out, then what is the use, I would say it's a very small use, for a small part of the forum users, who in occasion use names of people in small discussions ;).

I dont think that it works like that.

I believe that you need to press a "tag" button, and that will make the @Username tag, and send them an alert.. It may work by just typing @Username, but I think there is probably a way to shut it off.

There is a Similar thing on the dev.bukkit.org, and it looks like it is managed quite well. I think it would be a good addition.

My only argument against this is that it's easier to just use a @ symbol instead of using that process

The only standing argument I have against it is the use of it and what Vershye wrote:

It was updated for the last time on the 19th of April this year, I'm assuming it's atually being worked on, but if it's fully functional now, I do not.

I just wanted to comment on this, and I am not sure if i quite read it right, but what Vershye said, was what i interpreted to be that XenForo needed to include this in the software. I'm pretty sure that this is an add on, which takes literally 3 clicks to install. They have something like this working, and implemented on the Bukkit forums.

EDIT: I've Decided to link to the XenForo Manual, this is the Addon Information
And, I looked at the Link Crazy has in the first post, and that is an addon

Please do correct me if i misinterpreted what you said.
