i have a unique opportunity... someone has not given em the chance to turn him down but said he may save and build me a custom gaming tower... he hasn't given me the choice to turn the gift down. saying to choose which operating system i want... one question though whats the difference between mac-linux-windows?

as far as gaming is concerned.. as long as it works nicely i don't care... but there are other things I'm looking into

As far as hardware is concerned, in my opinion, Windows beats Mac. The reason for that is, from what I've heard; if something in a Windows computer breaks, you can replace that individual part; however, if the same happens in a Mac it's much more of a hassle.

There's also different interfaces etc; I don't know enough about Mac or Linux to say much else.

My opinion as a hobby programmer and game developer:

    Software:
Mac- Very durable good for office working conditions
Windows- Very flexible, good for gaming, can be annoying (Windows 8)
Linux- Offers a lot of freedom for programmers, not good for gaming (the OS supports only few games, and almost none of the big titles)

    Hardwere:
Custom built PC towers can be very cheap. Even good gaming systems cost only a fraction of their factory-made counterparts.
