    Hey all!

First of all, kind mods and admins, please do not lock this, but if an argument starts please end it.

Anyway, short and sweet, vote your answer, and maybe put your reason.

This poll is completely irrelevant since the plugins for the server aren't even updated to the latest version.

But for the sake of those that will claim I'm the "big bad mod trying to keep the players opinions down": I voted no.

There is nothing world changing or world breaking in the update to 1.10 that would warrant us needing to reset the map. The only thing that would come of a world reset would be losing the very few regulars that we have left playing on the server.

1.9 additions: Igloos, we don't have structures generate on the main world anyway. End stuff, we don't have an end, so would be added to the Deity Shop, or given a custom recipe if they don't already have one.
1.10 additions: Fossils, will be available in the periodically reset mining world like previous world ore/block additions. Nether items, will be sold in the Deity Shop like other nether items, or custom recipes made for those that don't have a recipe already.

Why would it need to be locked?
And if the usual arguments pop up, they'll be dealt with individually, b/c this isn't the thread for them. Pick one of the other 30 that already exist.

I voted no. I prefer no resets unless there is major change in gameplay system.

Didn't vote yet, but my vote is more likely to be a 'no'.

The news of a reset would (maybe) attract some currently inactive players, but that interest would fade even faster than it did in this map. This last reset proved that a new map alone is not enough to maintain long term interest.

We need the server to be restructured and put back on the right trail *before* we try to attract people to it.

    Some places to start imo:
    - A deep rebalance of our economy, or at least some work has to be done to remove the economy breaking dynamics we have at the moment (super cheap diamond tools from donator kits, farming of inactive players' vote money, etc).
    - Creation of incentives for building in the main world, or something else that would give players a reason to spend the materials and money they collect. Preferably a system that works in a cyclical fashion or progresses exponentially, so it remains valid in the long term.
    - Creation of features focused on advanced players. Something for them to do after they have got their god tools and armor and created their towns. Call it elitism if you will, but bored mayors make boring towns.

Oh whale. I'm honestly unhopeful for the server's future. Even trying to suggest anything feels pointless and hypocritical, being a staff member myself.

There is no easy solution for this server. Unless a big amount of time and effort is put here to change things, we will watch the last few players who are still trying slowly quit, until Deity finally decides that the maintenance cost is no longer worth it.

This is my personal opinion, and I don't care if it receives replies or not. But I will say one thing. Everyone, and even staff members, are giving up awfully easily. That's all I'm saying, if you want to testify this statement you can, but I'm not saying anything else about this topic. Good luck, I'm of course not leaving of the server for as long as possible. But there you go, its your decision what comes next.

topics like this have been going on for over a year(f not years plural), not exactly an easy give up

    *edit*

Personally I voted no because I love my island, but also because of college (and a few other reasons) making it so i dont have time to play as much now as i would like to

There is no nice way of saying this, but in order to achieve anything, the server needs an admin that is motivated to playing on the server. Deity can do what he wants and i respect that, but does it make me want to play? If he wants to play, i want to play! i just miss him.

It was so exciting when he and Van Zeben used to get upto michief, i used to get chills when they would turn up, i was always worried i would get into trouble and banned even though i was legit, thought i would be banned through association of hackers, luckily i wasn't and all the gold that was duped in by certain players ended up on my ceiling in sunshine district lol!

I voted no because the community still use the forum, but many of them do not want to play the game. so a reset would be unfair on the few who do play, and also echoing what Versh said about plugins etc, tbh i didnt even know a new minecraft was out, unless you guys are talking about 1.9 and making that the main world lol?

Yeah i didnt even know 1.10 was out

    its too early!

I voted no. I haven't even played on this map for a year yet, and a couple of other players are in the same position. I would like to have my town stay up, and I am not a donor, so I would lose all my dei.

Don't fix what isn't broken. There is nothing broken (concerning the amount of players and community) from Deity's standpoint. Answer is simple: Find another server. Regarding the poll I think it would be smart to appeal to what is left, and to not reset the server. It is a "greedy" wish and our go-to "solution" for the veteran community, which by the way is honestly a small amount now too.

What needs to be done, instead of a map reset, is a complete restoration of the gold standard. The sole way of acquiring new Dei should be through gold mining (or through a few types of minable commodities). Voting income is ruining the economic fun. Deity has to reset everyone's balance if this change is to be implemented.

Also, the process by which players are able to buy a shop should be more dynamic. Mods should be able to sell shops more periodically and ownership should have an expiration date.

These changes require extremely limited work for Deity to implement.

First: about a map reset; I would be sad. I like Somerset the way it is, exclusive nostalgia and all, and given how many of those players simply don't play Minecraft anymore I don't think it will be anything close to the way it is now, if it is even rebuilt. However, a map reset would probably force us all to be in the same town, at least for a day or two. Being in an exceptionally active town might be fun for a little while. But it would splinter apart as soon as each independent, current town leader got the funds to create a new town. Or sooner, depending on how secure people feel from griefing.

    On the topic of changing things, with or without resetting the map;

I think changing how money works - anything that makes money harder to get - might backfire more than it would attract new players - iirc there are a few towns barely squeezing by, and most towns have large areas of unclaimed but developed area because they can't afford or don't want to pay the plot taxes. And as far as changing how resources work, unless we added modpacks full of content, we would quickly run into the same issue every map restart - a glut of resources like diamonds. Just ask JWCuber how long it took him to get as many diamonds as he's gotten - or even go visit Wolfington, which has a spawn practically made out of diamonds. He's not a donor, those diamonds are from mining and from the store. Afaik all other resources are the same way. It really doesn't take long at all to reach "endgame" level on this server simply due to mass mining of /mine and super cheap prices at /mall.

That's part of the reason Infinity Evolved is such a popular FTB modpack, it strongly decreases all resources and lengthens the time to reach "endgame". (I don't really appreciate how every path that could be compartmentalized requires a blood altar, but that's a personal opinion.) In every version of Vanilla Minecraft that I've played, by a couple of months into a new map, everyone feels rich because everyone has all the blocks they need. I really like the idea of classes that have segregated abilities, but I don't think vanilla minecraft has enough content to support a true worker-based economy. Basically, I think asking to change the economy is asking to change the game.

Notice, however, that I said "feels rich". I remember there's been some discussion about how some of the merchants have been unable to pay for their shops, and like I said about the unclaimed-but-developed plots. This goes beyond roads connecting towns, which I strongly believe should be protected as well, especially given some are in low-frequency areas. However, there's much to be said for having grief protection in general, and this particular system of grief protection, not just a golden shovel that you can use anywhere and in any illogical place.

I don't know about changing anything about the economy or the grief protection. I would like to see more claimed plots, but I don't hear about a lot of cases of griefing and they get fixed quickly IMO. I think the system works.

Yeah i'm definitely giving a big fat No for this poll.

I agree with driver on this one. There are waaaay too many problems for this server to be fixed by a reset. Most likely a reset would only cause more harm than good. When I was mayor of Anvil I saw alot of people leave, and many of them had very different reasons for why they left (and no it's not because they got caught duping or trying to solicit others into leaving their towns, those guys were gone way before I was in charge.) From gripes with the server, the staff, or other players, to experiencing mind numbing boredom at just the thought of logging in. And one thing I saw as time went on is that the problems of the server, IMO, seemed to entangle and turn into a gordian knot.

For those who have not heard the story i'll give you the basics. The gordian knot was a knot that could not be untangled, and when Alexander the great came to the province of Gordium, he heard of the prophesy that whoever untied the knot would come to rule all of Asia. So one day when Alexander was bored (and probably a little smashed) he decided to try to untie the knot. Finding that it was quite impossible to untie it, he decided to just cut it in half.. The rest is history and the point that i'm trying to make is that I think the only way that this server could ever recover is if the Alexandrian approach is taken and a drastic move is made. Such as bringing a new and more dedicated admin into the fold (I'm not saying deity should be replaced, i'm just saying I think he could use the help of a more active person so he can focus on everything behind the scenes.) This person, as well as Deity, would also have to address the problem of having a towny server that structurally promotes competition but at the same time has staff that do there best to keep competition to a minimum because it legitimately starts drama. (Btw, muting possible sources if drama doesn't end it, it just makes it much more passive aggressive, trust me I know.) As well as having the server staff reorganized (maybe even getting rid of some and have replacements brought on, because there has always seemed to be a large amount of staff that are never on.) Thirdly, having new devs brought in to fix any current problems and begin creating new and more engaging things for players to do. And lastly, giving players ideas and opinions more consideration, because i've seen plenty of people try to help and just get shooed away. Tbh I have no idea how all this could be achieved because it would require a large pool of people who have actual experience in running a server (which this server doesn't have) but again it's just my view of how the server could be fixed. But 5srs I wouldn't reset the place, it wouldn't achieve anything.

I agree also we shouldn't reset until MC 2 comes out. There does need to be some creative new things to do so I hope MC 2 brings some of that for us. A lot of us have school but we do have some free time to work on our towns. Most of us are bored and need ideas for building that are exciting. Builds we haven't tried yet maybe in competitions. The Halloween mini game was awesome maybe more stuff like that. Maybe a Christmas redstone build off in creative? How to lite up a tree? Or make a jack in the box redstone popup? Contests always bring people in. Best of all we need good prizes. another thought what about a cannon that shoots people in the air?

Heres another idea. What about redstone lessons?? The teacher would have us all build the same thing and help us understand how it works. The redstone expert players could be the teachers? We could try sign ups.

The problems requiring fixing need to start at the top and it can trickle down from there. Some of you have hit the proverbial nail on the head where the issues lie, and it's a problem that, once resolved, can hopefully cause a ripple effect that cascades down and brings the popularity of the server back up. I don't necessarily mean the server's not popular, but it definitely doesn't have the population it once had. The amount of towns owned by player alts is rather staggering and pathetic. If Deity is fine with the server just plodding along into oblivion one day in the future, so be it.

My opinion may or may not be relevant since I no longer play here, so take it as you will. I could really dig into it, but that'll just stir the pot, so I'll leave it short and sweet.
