Forum suggestion - "Groups"

So as making a recent post in general, a kind of 'writing game' it sort of sparked up to me that the idea of 'groups' might be pretty neat? On the forum?...​

I.e: I'd like to start a 'creative writing' group, where if I started certain post to do with creative writing they'd be notified so they can get involved? And maybe a 'group page' where we could sort of talk amongst ourselves and share our pieces of writing/work etc?..​

Maybe there will be a group on.. I don't know.. 'Modelling' where people take photos of their models and 3D creations in real life (or not 3D, whatever..) but yeah.. Groups, group pages?.. ​

Can't you just make a thread about said topic and then all your hobby-sharing peers can post on it?

 

Just think it would be nicer to have a page with maybe certain aspects, more than what is included on topics, into it. IE: Like a group page kinda having it's little own forum section purely on the page itself..

For example with my idea the sections would kinda be like..

"Forum Roleplay" With subforums of certain areas IE: "Snowy Mountains" "Paradise Meadows" (some other cheesy names to create a 'scene')
"Character Profiles & Backstory"
"Artwork of Characters"
"Roleplay Games"..

etc..

Rather than making a new forum of your own and just introducing it to the people interested in your hobby, have it all interlinked with Deity so it's easier and we know who's who.

 

Reminds me of Arwenden's ar forum thread.

Perhaps the popularity of this extra-deityricular activities has now grown large enough, for this to happen.

i think forum groups would be useful for towns

 

I was actually thinking about having multiple forums - Like GFX , RPG, forum games, discussions.

 

Why not have a feature where you can 'subscribe' to forums? So if you're into art, you can subscribe to the art forum and then you get notifications when a new topic is created there?

 

I finally got around to talking to Deity about this, here's the idea that is going to be input - if he can either find a plugin, or has the time and space to design one for it.

Below all of the current forum will be "Group Forums" Within those group forums, will be forums of those which wish to create groups, I.E my 'Creative Writing Group', Ary's 'Art Group', perhaps a Food group will be there ETC. It will be open in "Group Forums" for anybody to start a group forum, and be in charge of creating the sub-forums within it and monitoring it etc.
We understand this is also a way for people to become quite abusive with this power, and silly and spam up ridiculous groups etc. Hence the discussion of organising the groups in 'popularity' where the one with obviously most posts will rise up. Occasionally moderators will most likely have a nosey at the groups just to distinguish whether it's abusive of appropriate for the forum, if not then a possibly deletion of the forum and punishment upon the person will take place.

Having actual forums would get too messy.

I say we take a "BuddyPress" approach to this. BuddyPress is a popular WordPress plugin that allows groups and forums to be created on a WordPress site. These groups could either be public or private, where you need to be accepted.

This could be very beneficial. For example, if xSocK wants to start a League of Legends ImDeity clan or something, he could create a group where people could join and do whatever. Now we don't have a whole forum for it, and they have a little place to collaborate. The artsyfartsy people could make a group and make group drawings and stuff.

I don't see at all how it would get 'messy' and the 'forums' won't be on the main home page they will be under a separate forum called "Users"/"Groups"
Also we wanted the groups/user forums on the page because people would all be connected to it instead of having to go elsewhere for it.
