1.8 Update?

So, since it has been stated already after what I just read from Bukkit.. I'll say it.

What basically happened was that EvilSeph decided to shut down Bukkit because of Mojang now enforcing their End User License Agreement (EULA). Somewhere in their it talks about how you should not "distribute anything [Mojang] has made". Bukkit was in a legal gray area ever since it was started, but Mojang never shut down the project because they understood there was no other method to do what they were doing and allowed it. Because of the enforcement of the EULA, EvilSeph was going to shut down Bukkit (basically before Mojang would).

Mojang (Jeb) in turn said that Bukkit was part of Mojang and would not be shut down. From what I gather EvilSeph was happy about this because he thought Mojang would be upset about the project continuing, but ended up being told to continue. Bukkit will still alive, at least until 1.8. I'm confident it will remain even after 1.8

tl;dr: EvilSeph tried to shut down Bukkit before Mojang, but Mojang was never going to shut down Bukkit in the first place. Bukkit will live to see 1.8

Exactly, there are always new members or whatever who have not been here long enough to see an update, hence Smc was targetting those people who dont know, so they dont need to ask xD

 

I haven't been on for an update, but I have been told much about them mainly thanks to you Heinz, and Danny. Many peopl e have started to plan what they are going to do if there is a nap reset. And these ideas are very interesting.

 

Wow, that was awesome how on Tuesday 1.8 came out as well as the Bukkit. How nice it must have been to use the compiler to create the Bukkit. Must have been nice to get it released at the same time. Anyone else notice that? And now today going to that same link you discover it's been taken down. Funny how that works? Just curious who grabbed a copy of it while it was up before being taken down again?

 

Well if it was taken down, perhaps the version that was up wasn't adequate

 

i was trying to get onto the sever but it said server outdated what should i do? is it involved with updating to 1.8?

 

when you launch minecraft, select the version 1.7.10 instead of using the 1.8 ( Diety still on 1.7.10) on the first screen that comes up

to select the version, click on the edit profile tab and then click the down arrow at the end of the line that says the version.

wait - what, did I read that wrong. Don't think Deity is 1.8 yet.

So no 1.8 for us until we code our own Bukkit/Spigot/whatever?

 

No it has something to do with an ex bukkit developer and Mojang itself, they blocked bukkit/spigot 1.8. I dont know if Mojang is innocent in this, it seems that an ex bukkit coder decided to do it to troll Mojang possibly. As they own bukkit they say "Bukkit is not his to discontinue"

Dinnerbone tweeted that he would personally update bukkit to 1.8, and it seems reasonable that he will. He also stated that bukkit 1.8 will not be the official API.

Whatever the case, check out the Spigot forums as they seem to be making updates as news comes in, whereas bukkits hands seem to be tied due to mojang ownership.

Dont panic! we could always keep the server on 1.7 and live hapily ever after, maybe just make small changes and develop what we already have. At least this is what we will be doing in the meantime until clearer information becomes available.

But the worst part of it, Mojang you sly sneaky weasel!

Check out Mojang, i wonder whose idea it was, pretty clever if you ask me, however extremely devious and completely against the spirit of the community, They bought bukkit 2 years ago, and have essentially kept it secret in order to keep community developers writing the code for free, now they reveal how its really going to go down. So sneaky.

If i have mis-interpretted any of this please feel free to correct me with accurate information, but speculations will be dismissed.

Thats right, but i am just repeating what one of the developers had wrote. Expressing his feelings as a dev.
I think i just worded that badly.
What i meant was, it seems the people who were working on it during the past 2 years were somewhat left in the dark regarding the future of bukkit, and are displeased that the downloads to the 1.8 bukkit were blocked.
However it does not seem to be blocked by Mojang itself rather an ex bukkit dev, hence Jeb said "bukkit was not his to discontinue"

I can't seem to get mine craft to log onto EMDEITY now, and I can't find the drop down menu that will allow me to go back to previous version. HELP!! I am not a moron, I just have no clue. Hmmm....

 

open MC, click edit profile, then click the down arrow at the end of the version column, choose 1.7.10, click save profile.
